Ok, you finished it :) First of all, many good names, even among the albums, maybe in some cases you included too much stuff, but whatever. I wouldn’t see Queen in there, and ABOVE ALL, the latest albums are absolutely to be avoided. U2, sorry, but I don't like them (well, maybe October, War, and Boy have something good). I didn't include The Beatles because, while I relatively like them (Pepper, Abbey, Revolver), they seem too overrated to me, and I left them out out of spite. Don’t you know "Tutti Morimmo a Stento" by Faber? Also, why isn't Wyatt there? Then, regarding Bob Dylan, AFTER the priorities, pick up something else (Blood On The Tracks) and finally, a sprinkle of New Wave and Kraut would make it magnificent. I've been pedantic, verbose, and boring as usual, but it was necessary :)

But no, don't worry. :) Anyway, after Hammill and Canterbury, New Wave will be among my priorities. Thanks for the suggestions, though. ;)

At home, I have 2 vinyl records by Weather and I'm interested in them too. Why haven't I played them? Who knows.

The WR are crazy, Jaco is an absolute beast. I recommend the two titles you find here, for me the best in their discography.

one of the two is Heavy Weather. Who knows, maybe after Hammill and the Hatfields...
    • SydBarrett96
      6 jan 13
You have my full support. Even if some time ago I also recommended you "Darkness on the Edge Of Town" by the Boss...
    • hjhhjij
      6 jan 13
No no, after that you'll get Sonic and Joy Division. The Weather are insane, yes, but even before Pastorius, eh (I mean, Zawinul and Shorter, eh). Black Market is the best, followed closely by the two previous ones. Heavy Weather is a bit less, but still super cool. After the Division, you could switch to them and then to other post-electric-revolution fusion groups of Miles Davis.
    • hjhhjij

The first soloist of Jaco is stunning. And on Joni Mitchell's albums from '76 to '80, he plays (along with Shorter, sometimes).

Pana, after Canterbury and Oldfield, New Wave seems like the most obvious step, there's so much of that stuff ;)

Kraut is also a genre that I should explore further.

Of Waits, there is, personally, the worst. Of course, it’s always a relative worst. It is a well-known total fasting of krauts.

Waits prefers the "classic" period of the '70s; I had to work hard to get him to listen to it, but just imagine the satisfaction of seeing him here :) Anyway, it's understandable to prefer the early Waits over the more experimental one; it really depends on personal taste. We're talking about truly NOTABLE albums. Even though I slightly prefer Waits from '83 to '04 (but especially '83 to '93), I can't help but love the '70s records. If this is Waits at his worst (likely, considering who we’re talking about), it's a VERY relative worst :)
    • pana
      6 jan 13
Everyone talks about Waits and yet no one knows the music of his partner d'amour, Rickie Lee Jones, in the singer-songwriter scene only second to Joni, IMHO.
    • hjhhjij
      6 jan 13
Rickie Lee Jones won't know your father, even though I admit I first encountered her from the cover of Blue Valentine. But partner in love, what a joke eh, at least since 1980 onwards, if Brennan heard you :D

de gustibus non disputando est but I find it very surprising that you put sorrenti in the first place, moreover you placed de gregori before de andrè and forgot battisti and lucio dalla, but I repeat tastes are tastes........

You’ve really blown it up a lot :)
Very nice, though in my opinion, for some artists, you’ve included a bit too many albums, but the ranking is always great; by the way, you know we have similar tastes, so this was an easily predictable opinion.

By chance, I stumbled upon this ranking... what can I say, you have good taste (especially if that 96 refers to your birth year)! A small note? It feels strange to see 6 albums by Venditti and only one album by Drake (the other 2 deserve recognition too), one by Cohen (the first one is a classic, sure, but the two subsequent ones...), one by Wyatt, one by Reed, and one by Miles (ok, jazz doesn't seem to be your preferred genre... nor is it mine... but "the prince of darkness" left us so many wonders beyond just "Kind of Blue"; I'm thinking of the soundtrack for that French film, "Birth of Cool," "Round About Midnight," "Milestones," "Miles Smiles," "Nefertiti," and I won't even mention the electric albums I still need to listen to... by the way, listen to something from Miles' great student, Coltrane)... anyway, great ranking (it's really more of a list)!

    • SydBarrett96
      16 jun 14
I have the other albums by both Drake and Cohen on hold; they're among my next listens. :) Miles Davis is a legend, but unfortunately, I only know "A Kind of Blue."
    • bluesboy94
      16 jun 14
Start with "Five Leaves Left" (what an album!) for Drake, for Reed I recommend "Berlin," "Coney Island Baby" (easy to listen to, but still not trivial) and "Songs for Drella" (with that monster multi-instrumentalist Cale), for Cohen (everything or almost everything up to "The Future")... catch up on Miles because he is a TITAN of 20th-century music.

I’ve already read it, and after your updates, I want to express my immense appreciation for this ranking. For some artists I don’t know or know little about, you are familiar with a ton of albums, and in other cases, obviously, it’s the opposite ;) Since, due to commitments, I’m navigating less, I take the opportunity to suggest a few things that I see are missing: for Dylan, if you don’t know them, the four albums before those you mentioned and “Desire” and especially “Blood On The Tracks,” Battisti’s whites (sublime), “Berlin” and “New York” by Lou, keep going with Van as there are more beautiful ones (No Guru, Veedon Fleece), the second album by Caravan, and Hackett’s acoustic albums, while for our local prog (by the way, are you following the initiative from "L'espresso"?), my favorites are Biglietto per l'inferno.

Then a bit of '90s (Dinosaur Jr, Slint, Codeine, Tortoise) good for the Dirty Three, I adore the Porcupine but I’m too biased. Thank you so much for the records I didn’t know and that you’re suggesting to me here.

So, I tell you that sooner or later I will listen to all of Dylan's discography; as for Battisti's white albums, I have "L'Innocenza" on vinyl. :) I'm following the initiative from "L'Espresso," even though I already have some of the titles, but I can tell you that these days I'm really enjoying Concerto Grosso No. 1 by the New Trolls.

Nice list, with a few things I find debatable. But when it comes to personal tastes, I believe there's not much to discuss; it's just a shame there's so little Metal, which I like so much. Hi Syd.

In general, I believe that confrontation is much more constructive and interesting than insults, especially when based on preconceptions, and even more so from those who, after all, often feed on junk, both in music and cinema, passing it off as the Gospel because they are used to presenting themselves as experts. Unfortunately, it's a modus vivendi that some foolish kids disguised as experts on this site still don't understand. Hi!

Very interesting. Thank you! I’m telling you this just to see if you want to add anything; I would also include "Fisiognomica" by Battiato; from Gaber, "Io non mi sento italiano"; then "Ys" by Balletto di Bronzo; "Physical Graffiti" for Led Zeppelin (after all, it has "Kashmir" and "Ten Years Gone"); more from Lou Reed, beyond "Transformer"; all of Nick Drake; no Queen; Tom Waits: also Bone Machine; U2: at the very least "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby!"; something from Iron Maiden; almost all of Dead Can Dance; for Italy, in addition to the indicated Battiato album, all of De André and also "Curre curre guagliò" by 99 Posse.

Thank you. :) Anyway, I was convinced that the Ballet was there, but I forgot to add it.

Indeed, as a good expert in progressive you are, you must add it...

It's a shame they're not in alphabetical order. The article "The" never counts. I believe the same goes for Italians. And with personal names, the surname always comes first. This is because I always arrange my iPod in the best way.

You've forgotten all of Fossati's work from the mid-80s onward (his golden period, in short, definitely better than Banda). Anyway, nice ranking!
