British rock trio formed in 1977 (Sting, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland) known for blending rock, reggae and new wave and for hits such as "Every Breath You Take".

Formed in 1977; core lineup Sting (Gordon Sumner), Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. Major studio albums include Outlandos d'Amour (1978), Reggatta de Blanc (1979), Ghost in the Machine (1981), Zenyatta Mondatta (1980) and Synchronicity (1983). The band broke up in 1986 and reunited for a world tour in 2007–2008. Early lineups briefly included guitarist Henry Padovani (documented in reviews).
