It's well known that they're great, but the fact that they are so often flaunted by those who want to present themselves as connoisseurs of "difficult" music annoys me. And stop saying they were better with Barrett; that's nonsense.

The Incredible Jazz Guitar
04 Reviews | 29 Definitions | 201 Definitions
No one knows a damn thing and it has influenced like probably no one else. Three tombs, two (or three?) photos, born who knows when, died how and when even less. God, pardon me, the noble Devil, has ensured that 29 tracks of music have arrived, so haunting as to tear at the souls. In short, the apotheosis of the blues in its most delirious and enigmatic form. I don't believe he sold his soul to anyone... but, thinking about it, the only thing we have various testimonies of is that he was a lousy guitarist, he left, and after a while he returned a "phenomenon"... what beautiful stories!

It's hard to judge the monumental work of an artist often teetering between experimentation and banality. For this reason, I'm convinced that many who quote him haven't listened to him seriously, and many who do listen to him seriously struggle to truly understand him. All the others, to avoid misunderstandings, prefer to speak well of him.

Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath cites them as a primary influence. Lemmy of Motörhead holds them in much, much higher regard than the Stones. Matlock of the Sex Pistols loved them. George Benson, struck by "Abbey Road," immediately made his own version of the entire album. Robert Fripp decided to become a musician after hearing "A Day In The Life" on the radio, etc., etc. Does it count?

82 Reviews | 96 Definitions | 278 Definitions
In the years when kids wondered what the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven were hiding, what the prism of Dark Side Of The Moon represented, in the years when many thought that Black Sabbath had come straight from hell and that the Hermit with his Four Symbols might lead us to Paradise, in those same years there was a band that was only focused on playing and was traveling the world promoting a piece that talked about a fucking fire in a casino.

So Great this Lord that every definition is, by force, reductive. I hate every type of classification attempt (stupid and useless farces by half-hearted critics) but thinking of this man, I can't help but recall a phrase from boxing or martial arts: "pound for pound"; there he is among the greatest of all time "pound for pound" or to put it "in music," regardless of genres. My soul can only continue to thank him.

The latest Oral-B studies show that 90% of people who hate this band suffer from inferiority complexes compared to the late Jim Morrison. The remaining 10% hate the blues, and honestly, I don't know which of the two categories is sadder.

After Exile, it's better to let it go, but the poker dealt between '68 and '72 is legendary, 4 essential albums that have now become an integral part of my DNA. I'm not fond of certain forced and misplaced comparisons, but surely the Rolling Stones crushed them like cockroaches hehe.

English, fat, with a silhouette unmistakably known to the public and a tendency towards neuroses, even sexual ones, considered an absolute genius of cinema by many (including Godard and Truffaut), an absolute genius of suspense by all. There's little to say; the images speak for themselves: Kim Novak thrown from the bell tower, Cary Grant climbing Mount Rushmore, Bodega Bay besieged by birds, Jimmy Stewart spying through binoculars, and, of course, the epoch-making blood shower of Janet Leigh.

Great with and without Eno. Moreover, for my taste, they represent an anomaly: I'm not a lover of kitsch or glam in general. They are a beautiful exception.

12 Reviews | 12 Definitions | 109 Definitions
Immense. Everyone remembers Alvin Lee, his guitar would penetrate you (yeah, it wasn't just fast, damn it!) but the other three?! Lyion, Rich Lee, and Churchill were incredible musicians who turned even the simplest pieces into true gems. Woodstock was electrified.

"Be a simple kind of man, or be something you love and understand."
08 Reviews | 07 Definitions | 137 Definitions
A band that sometimes, guiltfully, is forgotten. Rodgers and Kossoff are fantastic, the kid Fraser on bass and the impeccable Kirke on drums. Paul's voice tears at the soul and the other Paul's guitar is a sharp blade. Dry sound, basic without pretensions. Primordial hardrockblues! Heroin will end it all before any disputes arise.
16 Reviews | 15 Definitions | 113 Definitions

A unique sound that still feels fresh and well-crafted today, masterpiece albums (above all "Outlandos D'Amour") and a handful of legendary tracks. And when we consider the presence of a certain Copeland on drums...5 for life.

13 Reviews | 16 Definitions | 121 Definitions
If Lynott has been dedicated a statue in his Dublin, there must be a good reason for it. Phil was a groundbreaking musician, and apart from a couple of albums towards the end (Chinatown, Renegade), Lizzy never released a bad record. Above all, he was a person of immense sensitivity with a teenage life that was certainly not easy. I tend to go against the tide, as I love the first three albums, the ones with the trio, which have a much less hard sound and are more folk/traditional. They deserve to be rediscovered, in my opinion. And Downey, a very underrated drummer on those three albums, gives his best.

A rock band that had nothing to envy from others, especially since it was actually a hard rock supergroup. Too bad it ended this way. I give it a 4.5. For me, it shouldn't be placed at the 100th spot with a ranking like this, but at least in the middle...
