The Profile

Locanda delle Fate are an Italian progressive rock group from Asti. Their 1977 debut Forse le lucciole non si amano più—overlooked at release—has since become a landmark of Italian symphonic prog. Reunited in the 1990s, they returned with Homo homini lupus (1999) and later live activity, including Progvention 2010.

Classic 1977 lineup: Leonardo Sasso (vocals); Ezio Vevey (guitar, vocals); Luciano Boero (bass); Giorgio Gardino (drums, vibraphone); Alberto Gaviglio (flute, guitars, vocals); Michele Conta (piano, keyboards); Oscar Mazzoglio (keyboards). Signature tracks include A volte un istante di quiete, Forse le lucciole non si amano più, Profumo di colla bianca, Sogno di Estunno, Non chiudere a chiave le stelle, Vendesi saggezza. The band later reunited, issued Homo homini lupus (1999), performed live (including Progvention 2010), and has been reappraised with vinyl reissues; they have also performed in Japan.

Reviews celebrate the 1977 debut Forse le lucciole non si amano più as a high point of Italian symphonic prog, originally overlooked but now revered. Homo homini lupus (1999) is seen as a careful pop-rock turn with mixed reactions. A 2010 live set confirms the band’s cohesion and Sasso’s expressive vocals. The group’s path: 1970s origins in Asti, later reunions, renewed acclaim.
