After what I believe was a poor debut, I approached this work with caution. Horrible cover, but somehow it traced the music contained within. Feelings laid bare like bodies, an atmosphere of the day after, a voice seems to read stories of mistakes, resignation, unmade beds in the shadow of closed curtains, empty bottles, and the smell of cigarettes on the walls. And yet, sparse piano riffs, guitars, manage to tear a ray of sunshine from the closed curtains. A smile from a sudden melody. Too bad about that horrible mechanical timekeeping. During the Scottish period, "Chemikal Underground" unearthed noteworthy names. It was 1998, and by 2000, many magic moments had faded away.

This was my first piece by Mogwai, I was struck by the dreamlike sound that suddenly, like an electric tsunami, spilled over, seemed to lose control but then receded, waiting for the next shock. Like all first times, it remained etched in my memory, the only one I remember being "Teen Rapid"; even though itā€™s a collection of singles before the debut album, itā€™s the Mogwai record I appreciated the most.

"Lido" an amazing work. It translates the obsessive seed of kraut school into various forms until it touches the sweetness of the Breeders. Male and female vocals intertwine in a song that transforms into a hysterical lifeboat at the mercy of electric blasts. They climb up Mother Sky and "Too Pure" certifies it. The use of a life jacket is not recommended, rise high and let go.
