The Backdoor Men - Out Of My Mind

Chunk Garage, if there ever was one…

Let’s say that if you are everything you claim to be (digger, sixties maniacs, and so on) the historically most interesting section of this collection is the one immediately following the concise tracklist of the two and a half singles released by the Backdoor Men during their activity and that, if you are indeed what you say you are and I have no reason to doubt it, you should know it like the ABC.

These are, in fact, the band's earliest recordings, those from the “mod” period preceding the folk/punk and garage shift that would lead them to record gems like Magic Girl and, on the wilder side, the unmatched beauty of Out of My Mind, when the Backdoor Men were still called Pow and roamed the local venues on scooters, bringing with them the gold of the Jam, the incense of the Lambrettas, and the myrrh of the Merton Parkas.

It was the early eighties, and Pow was the only mod band in Sweden. Pioneers of an aesthetic rich in charm. Just as it would be a few years later for the Backdoor Men. Pioneers once again.

Södra Esplanaden tells, through music and in the beautiful accompanying booklet, the transformation of Pow into Backdoor Men and then into the more fortunate (much more fortunate) Creeps. However, there is no trace of the songs that the quartet seemed to be working on for the debut album that was supposed to be birthed in the neonatal unit of Electric Eye in Pavia.

And that is a real shame.

We would have been happy and honored to know what history has deprived us of.

Bela Lugosi's Dead (Official Version) And that's it... We're starting over to listen to the knowledge of the Bauhaus from beginning to end.

Cocteau Twins - Whales Tails
#ilove4ad
Ladies and gentlemen, Music. It seems nothing short of arrogant and pretentious to express myself about the Cocteau Twins. Why do I love them so viscerally? No, it wouldn’t be fair to leave it at that. Simply because the Cocteau Twins are the Cocteau Twins. A statement that seems to say nothing yet says everything, at least everything that can be said because the world of words in their case has not found and will never find the right terms to describe such magnificence and beauty. The evocative power and strength of their sound truly has no equals. I picked Whales Tails on a whim but I could have chosen a hundred others. Immense.

"On the Road to Tonara" - 1917 - Technique: Collage of Colored Paper

Edina Altara (Sassari, 1898 – Lanusei, 1983) was an Italian painter, illustrator, and ceramist, particularly known in the world of fashion.

She began her artistic career at a young age as a self-taught artist.

From childhood, she displayed exceptional dexterity with paper, creating, starting from 1915, first toys of modern shapes and then refined collages.

When she was just eighteen years old, in 1917, her collage “In the Land of the Fearless Sardinians” was purchased by King Vittorio Emanuele III (it is in the collections of the Quirinal Palace).

In Milan since the 1920s, the young artist quickly established herself as an illustrator with her drawings for numerous children's books.

Starting from the 1930s, she dedicated herself to ceramic production, design, and fashion, opening an atelier in her home in Milan.

Fashion would be at the center of her activity even in the 1940s: from 1941 to 1945, she created fashion sketches for the magazine “Grazia,” while from 1942 she began collaborating with the women's magazine “Bellezza,” directed by Gio Ponti, for which Altara produced illustrations and sketches, marking a vision of poise and elegance.

Between the 1940s and the 1950s, it was indeed Gio Ponti (recognizing the high quality of her artistic creations) who involved her in design and furnishing projects, including on the transatlantic liners Conte Grande, Conte Biancamano, Andrea Doria, Oceania, and Africa...

Sound Of Smoke - Phases (2023) [Full Album] #NEW #2023 #PSYCH The use of the female voice is good, adding a touch of originality. I need to listen to it closely, but it seems like a good job. I recommend a review.

The Wolfgang Press - Raintime (Official Video)
#iLove4AD [A sonic journey through the catalogs that have ignited my imagination]
Incendiary and brilliant, Wolfgang Press, in the early chapters of their musical life, sit atop the 4AD catalog with an original darkwave twist characterized by Mick Allen's excellent baritone voice and his stylish basslines. In 1991, with "Queer," they decided to reshape their sound with little success in terms of sales and acclaim.

"Amanda" from "Shawnee, Ohio" Brian Harnette "Shawne, Ohio" LP #MY2019
a nice idea that's not new, it reminds me of Different Train by maybe Steve Reich??? Anyway, original old recordings from the same country taken from a "sound" museum. Recordings of original "Murder Ballads," just voice, on which the author builds sound architectures creating poignant ballads. As you listen, you see the old face of the voice, the landscapes, the country. Everything is very beautiful. Recommended while returning to #my2019

Antena - Camino del sol (Full album) I wouldn't know which album to choose, maybe the first one but I don't know the title, so instinctively I picked this one that I understood to be a collection of EPs. Maybe I made the least happy choice, but at least it brought a forgotten name back to someone's mind.
