FLOTSAM JETSAM "Flotsam Jetsam" is a compilation by English singer and multi-instrumentalist Robert Wyatt, released in 1994 by the independent label Rough Trade Records. The album collects significant tracks from the musician's career recorded between 1968 and 1989, some of which are unreleased. Most are attributed to Wyatt, while the remaining tracks come from bands he played with or musicians he collaborated with.
Particularly interesting are Slow Walkin' Talk, a duet with Jimi Hendrix, and a primitive unreleased version of the beautiful Moon In June, which would later appear in 1970 on the album Third, the masterpiece by the Soft Machine. These two tracks were recorded in Hollywood in the fall of 1968, when Wyatt stayed in the USA after the tour and the disbanding of the "Soft Machine." Standfast, played with Gary Windo and Mongezi Feza, two of Wyatt's favorite musicians, is also noteworthy, as is No 'Alf Measures, an unreleased track by Matching Mole.
The track selection was made by the author in collaboration with writer Michael King, who uncovered some of it during research for the biography Robert Wyatt: Wrong Movements, released the same year as the album by the British SAF Publishing. The album is dedicated by Wyatt to his semi-professional musician father, who passed away in 1963.
