giorrrrrgio, listen: aside from the fact that by saying no Vasco, I won't be fooled, you really hit a nice tone... Could you please tell me (and look how nice I'm being) where Vasco is off-key, especially in the studio and always with the amazing pre and post productions...? I’ve been singing and playing (also) his songs for over twenty years and I’ve never noticed it, but I’m very democratic and always willing to concede to others... But where, damn it?

Evidently, everything is subjective... (thank goodness...!): let's try to clarify. For me, a masterpiece can be considered an album (let's take Dark... for example) that is liked by critics (almost all of them... let's not invent conspiracy theories), by the public (one of the best-selling albums in history), and by musicians (one of the most "played" albums in history). Moreover, an album that still sells millions of copies today (it only took a good remastering a few years ago....) and one that is still being talked about more than thirty years later. The same goes for Abbey Road. Yours, Bogusman, is the classic niche critique, the one where Drake is greater than Dylan just because we listen to him in groups of three. We need to be a bit careful with that. Of course, the market is not the only point of comparison; otherwise, Pausini would be a musical genius, but people are not necessarily - by default - stupid or homogenized. My criterion is still this: critics + musicians + public + at least thirty years of memory = a certain masterpiece. Too schematic...? Perhaps. Certainly, it cannot be applied to the album being reviewed here.
Francesco Guccini Signora Bovary

I agree: a masterpiece of maturity, or of the second (or third... depending on the schools of thought...) Guccio. For me, it's the most beautiful album ever. Played divinely, beautifully written, with melancholic-jazz atmospheres never repeated again. An absolute masterpiece (and not relative to Guccio, nor to singer-songwriter music).

But let's put aside the pungi and talk about one of the 3-4 most important live performances in Italian music...!!! Here everything is perfect: Guccio at the peak of his form, wonderful arrangements, the band playing like never before and never again, a wonderful atmosphere akin to a game played pleasantly at home. A perfect, beautiful record. A theological summary in the style of Guccini that cannot be missed by anyone who claims to love Italian singer-songwriter music.

I fully agree with voiceface, even if I might be a bit tougher than Syd. That said, I respect everyone's opinion. My opinion is simply that the Pink Floyd duo is Gilmour and Waters, and before and after that, it's a great band, but not the Pink Floyd as I understand them (and as they should be understood, obviously...). I completely agree that Syd's solo albums highlight the end of his creative vein. I wouldn't budge on the fact that the first two Pink Floyd albums sound "dated," perhaps even more so than the early Beatles and Stones. But maybe that's just my perspective. I'm, however, very pleased to have stimulated a debate (in my opinion) of a high level. I don't understand how Dark Side and Wish You Were Here can be criticized (it's like hearing criticisms of Beggar's Banquet or Abbey Road or The Doors). To me, these are the fundamentals, and if you criticize those, the whole castle crumbles...

madonna what a touchy person... We are here to exchange opinions... or am I mistaken...? Anyway, fine, every time I see your name I will refrain, implicitly acknowledging your point. Kisses

If we evaluate only the albums that were needed... how many do we save...? Twenty...? Thirty...? And besides, we would never agree on the titles... Anyway, excellent album that should not be judged on the first listen (at least three listens are recommended).

Guys, I'm sorry but you're thinking like fans (or you're, lucky you, very young). I repeat: he's making a fool of you. Turn to his declared mentors, and you'll hear some music.

Poor man's Morricone is a stupid judgment, even if Jesus Christ said it. As for Hot Spot, being ultrasensitive to the "Tits & Ass" discourse, I must say I enjoyed it too... but... damn... it had the most beautiful soundtrack ever... and that's not a detail. But just think about it, odradek, what would Wenders, or let's exaggerate, Kubrick, have done with material like this...?

frankly, as a lifelong superfan of the Stones, I don't consider this either the best album or the best live performance, but I always appreciate those who review albums that are certainly not trending...(and this is coming from someone who just reviewed the latest...). Cheers
