With Bollicine, Vasco forcefully enters the ranks of the big names in Italian music.
With his second Sanremo (where Vasco performed Vita spericolata, after causing a scandal the year before with Vado al massimo), even the general public took notice of him.
The album starts with Bollicine, a piece where Vasco enjoys mocking the prudes with that pause after "coca". A track that in 1983 became the summer hit thanks to the now memorable "Io la coca cola me la porto a scuola".
Following Bollicine is Una canzone per te, a track that opens with an arpeggio by Massimo Riva. The song is dedicated to the same girl from Albachiara and describes the young woman's disbelief when Blasco confessed that Albachiara was written for her ("una canzone per te e non ci credi eh").
The album continues with Portatemi Dio, a piece that caused him quite a bit of trouble. Vasco wants to provoke the Catholic world in which he grew up, and with this rock-infused piece, I think he succeeded tremendously.
It's time for Vita spericolata. A piece that has become a generational anthem! Tullio Ferro's music is particularly stimulating, and Vasco managed to write something extraordinary on top of it. In Vasco’s words: "I tackled the theme that was troubling everyone at the time, namely, the fear of a flat, quiet life, devoid of emotions. When I talked about Roxy Bar, I envisioned a different life".
The album is completed by Deviazioni (a mockery of the "daddy's boys" and prudes), Giocala (where Vasco expresses his concept of seizing the moment, taking opportunities on the fly), Ultimo domicilio conosciuto (a critique of those who banned free radio stations), and finally Mi piaci perché where Blasco describes the desire to have an aggressive, rude, reckless woman... a type worthy of Vasco.
Overall, for me, Bollicine is one of Blasco's best albums: aggressive, transgressive, and romantic!!!
For many, this is the last noteworthy Vasco. The spiritual testament of the early period, the rock-singer-songwriter period, the true one.
Even the most zealous critics of Vasco have never been able to answer with elegant clarity a simple question, 'where did Vasco get tracks like "fegato spappolato," "giocala," or "siamo solo noi"?'
I want to remember you when you had ideas and not like now when you get on stage like the circus animal you’ve become.
Bollicine... few songs, only 8, but made with the desire to be a NUISANCE, listen to PORTATEMI DIO or DEVIAZIONI and then, like in summer games, spot the differences.
Vasco, in 1983... released his consecration as a rockstar: 'Bollicine'.
'Vita spericolata' remains an example of a 'cursed' text that fits perfectly on deep and enveloping music.
