Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus

Hal, enough with this relativism! :-)))))) Just kidding, of course in the field of art I agree with you, everything is subjective... and indeed I feel entitled to say that I've never liked Nick Cave and perhaps I never will (despite "royal" reviews like this one, good job Cleo), I find his voice unbearable and his music unpleasantly artificial. Don't kill me! :D

Oh humax, damn it’s interesting... I copied 2/4 of the CDs I owe you (I’m super slow, yes, I know, sorry), can you replace my charlatans with these? ;D
Tom Waits Real Gone

What a great record! This time it’s truly official: our Tommaso gets better with age, like fine wine… in my opinion, it’s inevitable for someone like him, the more he explores, the more he digs -> the more madness he finds in his mind, the more surprisingly predictable his voice becomes… It seems to be his first album without piano; I hadn’t noticed, the absence is hardly felt at all! That’s not to say that Tom's "piano" version is bad, quite the opposite. Perhaps, in fact, to be his best album it should also include a piece like Blue Valentines or maybe something akin to the piano ballads of Mule Variations (which are gorgeous); but is it worth adhering to this aseptic criterion of 'completeness' to assess a Waits album? I don’t think so...

Damn, you really write a lot of nonsense, but I am part of group D, which means a small percentage of people who ask Caz to burn them Freak Out :)

:) Spectacular guys, for me too Real Gone is incredible, and even though I know little about Tom Waits' historical albums, I find it hard to imagine other products of this level. Mule Variations is what introduced me to him and perhaps for sentimental reasons, it's the peak. Now matched by Real Gone... The only thing is that Make It Rain is the only song that doesn't excite me :) But we'll discuss it better and in more detail in the comments to your reviews, which I eagerly await! I just want to say that this is one of those albums that drives me to write about it without hesitation, well, I'll publish it somewhere else :) Cheers!

I found it at Camden Locks, and I couldn't resist. It's really nice, some b-sides from Radiohead are worth any CD out there today... Pearly, Killer Cars, Palo Alto, How I Made My Millions... I should also mention a remix of Climbing Up The Walls by Zero7, not bad. Overall, it has a strong "Ok Computer" vibe, you can tell it's still missing the shift towards electronics and the maturity of Hail To The Thief. One necessary clarification: the cover of Wish You Were Here is sung by Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), and wow, what a beautifully fragile voice. I adore that man.

It seems that French voices are the quintessential sensual ones, Hal you should listen to Vive La Fete! Bass, '80s keyboards, and the voice of Els Pinoo that... well. The lounge, on the other hand, doesn't do it for me at all.

Very nice review of Humax, too bad I have to associate it with a group that I just can't listen to :)

Well, Cleo, vain... surely the "role play" matters a lot, and what humax says is true. However, since I have even been taken for a bisexual in here, perhaps as an exception I don't count for much :-)))) Jokes aside, I have a couple of observations. (A) As far as I'm concerned, my approach to music is completely devoid of emotion, in the sense that what makes me appreciate a song does not include the "emotions" it aims to express; that doesn’t mean, on one hand, that music doesn't evoke emotions (of my own), and on the other that certain moments can't be associated in my mind with a specific song (but also with a certain book, a certain film, a certain dish, a certain color, a certain way of smiling, and whoever else has... ). (B) In general, here, there are people who are quite deeply passionate about music, and thus have a certain sensitivity, which obviously is also noticeable in other fields; for this reason, I believe that distinguishing the approach to music based on genre here on DeBaser isn't as significant as it is elsewhere. But surely it can be discussed :) Regards

In fact, if I were from Rome, I would laugh at the "most historic" ;P But as a Sicilian, the "most beautiful" is enough to make me chuckle! :-)))) Take that!
