Dipende da cosa si intende e cosa si vuol significare per "migliore artista jazz"...miglior improvvisatore? importanza storica? miglior compositore? miglior band leader? creatore di un genere? contributo dato allo strumento? "influenza" sui successori? "carisma"? risultati nella sperimentazione musicale, anche trasversali?
