Born March 9, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas; died June 11, 2015. Instruments: alto saxophone, violin, trumpet. Pioneer of free jazz and proponent of his harmolodic ideas. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music (2007) for Sound Grammar. Key albums include The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959), Free Jazz (1961) and Sound Grammar (2006).
