DeBaser reviews praise Charlie Haden's deep, lyrical double-bass work, his collaborations (Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny, Gonzalo Rubalcaba) and his range from intimate duets to politically charged ensembles. Albums noted include Nocturne, Liberation Music Orchestra, Quartet West, Beyond the Missouri Sky and American Dreams. Reviewers highlight Latin influences, nocturnal balladry and Haden's leadership in collective projects.

For:Jazz listeners, double-bass enthusiasts, fans of Ornette Coleman and Pat Metheny, those interested in Latin-inflected and political jazz

Every moment of this "Nocturne" (2001) is the product of a perfectly successful fusion between jazz technique and Latin creativity, in this case Cuban and Mexican.

A metaphorically perfect record. Pieces like "El Quinto Regimiento" and "Song For Che", thanks also to the excellent arrangement by Carla Bley, manage to sound angry and tremendously motivated, even to ears not well-trained in jazz like mine, which paradoxically (but also due to the ability to connect such ideals to a fierce experimentation) make me associate this collective with the more recent Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

this album holds an extremely high artistic (and I would say... therapeutic) value that reconciles anyone with the world and makes one understand that if God exists, he has cast a benevolent eye among these tracks.
