THE BEATPACK: Head on Home

THE BEATPACK - The time and the pleasure

During a remarkable period of "welcome back pippe" - I admit I wasn't really feeling it anymore - I listened to and (re)discovered garage bands with soul and blood, which, as per the rule, have the most diverse influences from beat to punk, from psychedelia to R&B - from power pop to folk, from rockabilly to mod, even soul and even hard rock. In short, the essence of rock 'n' roll from true beasts to the wild scream of "screw your virtuoso and lightning-fast scales and your fucking four-octave vocal range." From 1990 onwards, with a few comebacks of old relics, savansadir.

At the turn of the nineties, first an EP and then an Album. While the pathetic critics were trying to shift the paths of garage - ahahahahah, ridiculous useless parasites - the boys throw you the most garage-R’n’B-beat sixties anyone could expect. Twelve little candies, and many years later, a complexion with other tasty little gifts. HERE, after Lando and Il Tromba, I'M PLAYING "THE TRUCK DRIVER"... even if I can't find my favorite one...

Soft Cell - Frustration

"I have a life, a normal wife, I have a car, a favorite bar, a job, an average salary, I have a hobby, nothing special, gardening.
And I watch the girls.
I am so ordinary..."

Uomini contro (Many Wars Ago) (1970) [ITA]

"Men Against," by Francesco Rosi, was adapted from "A Year on the Plateau" by Emilio Lussu, who had already been highly decorated in Asiago during World War I, later became an officer in the anti-fascist Italian contingent in the Spanish Civil War, founded "Giustizia e Libertà," and was consequently a founding father of the Italian Constitution.
Lussu attended the screening with Mario Rigoni Stern, a writer and a veteran of the Retreat from Russia, and came out of the cinema moved and affected by the harshness and truthfulness of the film. But once on the street, he stopped and, shyly, almost shielding himself, said to his friend: "You know, Mario: in war, sometimes, we also sang..."

During a remarkable time of "welcome back pippe" - I admit it wasn’t doing it for me anymore - I listened to and (re)discovered garage bands full of soul and blood with, as per the rule, the most diverse influences from beat to punk, from psychedelia to R&B - from power pop to folk, from rockabilly to mod, even soul and even hard rock. In short, the essence of Rock'n'Roll from true beasts to the wild scream of “fuck your virtuosic and super-fast scales and your four-octave vocal range of bullshit.” Since 1990 onwards, with some revivals of old fossils, savansadir.

MIKE STAX, by the way, and what the hell. How do you recount this Noble in a few lines?! A true crazy fetishist. Crawdaddys and Tell-Tale Hearts would be enough and more for generations. His latest band The Loons is a concentrate of everything. Four albums, so far, in the new millennium (maybe the first one from '99 but it doesn't change much). Today we spend it with them... tomorrow I don’t know.

Of course, we will meet again… Mike…
