In a remarkable period of “welcome back pipedreams” - I admit it wasn’t doing it for me anymore - I listened to, (re)discovered garage bands with soul and blood that, as per usual, drew from the most diverse influences from beat to punk, from psychedelia to R&B - from power pop to folk, from rockabilly to mod, even soul and even hard rock. Here we do a triple backward somersault for one of those many unique and unrepeatable stories. Rialto-1964, among the very first American groups infatuated with the British invasion. Five kids aged between 14 and 18 who immediately captured the hearts of the young people of the San Bernardino Valley with their live performances. Called by a local DJ, they participated in and won a local contest. The prize was to open for the Rolling Stones at the Swing Auditorium. Which happened two weeks later: May 15, 1965… and on Monday everyone back to school (to be continued) - no, there’s no uichipedia…
