I’ve completely fallen in love with this girl. I didn’t know anything about her… I pick up one record, then another, then a third… I guess I’ll grab the rest too. From what little I can gather, she’s surrounded by typical total bad luck both in her private life and professionally. Last-minute publications and missed opportunities, ignored collaborations… fabulous albums that received almost no attention. Her first partner died unexpectedly, and the second passed away two years ago… She followed him just a few hours later.

Basically, she’s like a female Tom Waits, with a dash of Janis Joplin and Patti Smith. Disconnected blues, clumsy RnB. Her voice is a grumpy, capricious, naive, childish wail…

I’m including her – even if it doesn’t quite fit the sound – for a mini showcase within the showcase, and if anyone knows more and wants to talk about it better…

Thanks Sandy, it’s better late than never this time for IlConte…
