Alfredo Cohen - Valery (Cohen-Battiato-Pio) - 1979

"Few perhaps know this, but a large part of those verses are by Cohen. And they're dedicated to a transgender woman, Valérie Taccarelli: 'I liked dusting, making the beds / Then staying aside / Like a real princess...'.
'Only a poet like Franco could understand Alfredo.'"

Mark Lanegan - Solitaire [Audio Stream]

I found an article that extrapolates some parts of Mark Lanegan's biography... copy-pasting:

Italy and Venereal Diseases

Mark Lanegan didn’t hold back when it came to venereal diseases. He had almost all of them, some repeatedly. In the book, he recounts that, during an unspecified concert by the Screaming Trees in Italy, he was suffering from a bad case of epididymitis (an inflammation of the testicles that causes pain and swelling). After two encores, he left the stage writhing in agony to collapse on the sidewalk outside the club, unable to find relief from that torture. Some fans saw him and – yelling “Who do you think you are? Liza Minnelli? You came to this disgusting city and you only give us two encores?” – tried to drag him back on stage to sing more songs. Mark was saved by a “half-Pakistani guy” who took him to the hospital, where he was advised to wear looser jeans. Was anyone there and remembers the scene?

Chased by Dealers, with Josh Homme

In Rockford, Illinois, during the tour to promote Dust, one night we almost lost – in one fell swoop – Lanegan and the young Josh Homme, who had been hired by the Screaming Trees as a second guitarist. Mark brought him along for some company while desperately searching for a dealer who would sell him heroin, but Homme’s healthy and clean appearance – especially since he did not use substances – made him look like a narcotics officer. This did not please the gang of dealers that Lanegan had found after much wandering, and the two managed to escape by a hair's breadth. Naturally, they did so empty-handed, much to the chagrin of the singer who was in withdrawal. Homme's comment on the night was: “If you do this to me again, I’ll kill you.”

The Attempted Murder of Al Jourgensen

Never piss off Mark, not even if you are Al Jourgensen and your Ministry is at the height of its success. And, above all, don’t make him angry over drug issues. You could end up in your underwear, on a disheveled hotel room bed, with the phone cord around your neck unable to breathe, while Lanegan threatens to kill you in front of a groupie and a member of your band. This happened in 1995 during the Australian/New Zealand touring festival Big Day Out. The two made peace a few days later, but relations remained frosty. They saw each other again years later, briefly, in Milan, but Lanegan was explicitly told to stay away, as he could be a bad influence on Al, who was now free from heroin addiction (but “puffed up like a balloon,” according to Mark's words).

A Sandwich with Johnny Cash

Mark once had the honor of eating a chicken sandwich made by the hands of a true music legend: Johnny Cash. The production...

Flower Thrower - Banksy (2003)

Flower Thrower is a 2003 artwork by Banksy. The subject of the graffiti, a young man, appears to be engaged in a confrontation: he wears a scarf covering his face and is ready to charge, but armed with a bouquet of flowers instead of a molotov. The original black and white work is on the wall of a private building; the only colored element that stands out are the flowers, symbolizing hope against destruction. In the same year of 2003, the construction of the separation wall between Palestinian territories and Israel was completed, a barrier on which Banksy has created several murals over the years. The image, which the artist used for the cover of his book “Wall and Piece” (a collection of his works from 2005), is one of the most reproduced in the form of prints, t-shirts, even tattoos, and of course, graffiti. My "guilty pleasure band"

I enjoy the new album even though it has abandoned the typical themes: depression, anxiety, loneliness, and whatever else you want to add. But that's how it is. They’re cool. Period.
