Dead C Harsh 70's Reality

I picked it up again this afternoon: what a thrill!!! Take the Red Crayola from the first album, the VU from the second, the Grateful from Feedback, the Faust, the Chrome (masters of the noise-rock+dirty electronics combination) and their heirs, the Butthole Surfers, update them to the era of Twin Infinitives and here’s one of the masterpieces of noise rock. Devastating.

In my opinion, certain Byrds have aged very well, maybe not the most openly psychedelic ones, perhaps not regarding the vocal section (typically 60's), but the instrumental section was cutting-edge for its time. Countless American indie bands from the 80s and 90s have drawn inspiration from them... not to mention Big Star... The jingle-jangle style has been as influential as the heavy riffs of Black Sabbath... "a harmonious dreamlike embrace": a perfect definition, Lewis.

Descendents Milo Goes To College

Thank you all! :-) @ Occulto: Stevenson left the Descendents and joined the Black Flag halfway through the decade. @ Vss: listening to "Hope" in the middle of a bike descent must feel incredible: I'll do it sooner or later... @ Fest: California hc from 79/83 isn't exactly your strong suit! ;-D Anyway, yes: Hope is a masterpiece. Frankly, I don't understand why every time there's a ranking of the greatest songs of all time, people often feel compelled to mention either classic hits (like Satisfaction) or long tracks (like Stairway to Heaven): the history of hc is filled with masterpieces that are one or two minutes long (What we do is secret, Rise Above, Change of Ideas, I hate children, Hope, I Don't need society, Filler, Gas Chamber, and many others...). @ Sfascia: it's true that the Descendents inspired the epigonic punk-pop trend that swept through US colleges in the 90s, but it's also true that a work of the depth and nuance of "Milo" shines with its own light.

Marilyn Manson has always been a businessman... He was one before he became famous, when he sold furniture... Then, after realizing that being an MTV star made more money, he, as a savvy entrepreneur, changed careers and made a fortune... The trajectory of M. Manson has nothing to do with the world of music, but with that of entrepreneurship. (like all the stars of radio and television...)
