Regarding the album, I share the reviewer’s opinion, as he already knows, except for the comparison with the previous works of these (her, I mean Tori) last fifteen years. Excluding "Abnormally Attracted to Sin," they are all more than respectable albums, and the criticisms (unjust) were (and are) mostly the result of annoying prejudices. This album, in itself, in mood and technical execution (guitars aside) is not that different from the previous ones (especially compared to "Unrepentant Geraldines"), and, to say, I find it clearly inferior to "Night of Hunters."
As for the rest, I don't believe its release has gone unnoticed: times have changed, and EVERYTHING that is not mainstream, unless one is in touch with a certain type of fanbase, risks being perceived as such (even the reviewer is no longer young enough to follow everything out there :-) ). Of course, detractors/haters like to propagate the idea that the Goddess no longer has fans: every new album and every new tour are always disproven by the numbers, but in this age of "collateral" information, anything and everything can be swept under the rug while starting fresh each time.
Getting back to us, perhaps the point is that no one expects a new "From the Choirgirl Hotel" from her, but everyone demands it (with other singer-songwriters more "closer" to the golden world of Criticism, we are much less demanding). I apologize for any mistakes in the post, but this new DeBaser has thrown me a bit into confusion. A hug to all, pretty and ugly: especially to the reviewer (who is very handsome).
