    Encyclopedic, but no compatriot?

To be honest, I can't think of any Italians. Who would you put?

  • Pierpaolo
    3 apr 10
surely the demetrio stratos of the good old days.

  • Emerson
    3 apr 10
but it was Greek and only partly rock

  • Cornell
    3 apr 10
Who would you put there? Adriano Celentano, right? What a question... ;)

Well, but it was in an Italian group, right?

  • Emerson, put Giovanni Lindo on; he's really great, even if he's a chant singer...

    Damn, but Tim isn't here.

  • Emerson

    but Tim is folk.....

Come on, he has embraced everything; he is the Only one in the field of rock.

    I liked the ranking; I wasn't dismissing it, actually ... :))

Maybe I perceive rock differently. I didn't even include Jeff Buckley, let alone Nick Drake, precisely for this reason. I should create a ranking of the best singer overall, but that seems too difficult. Between rock, soul, jazz, blues, folk, etc.

Here... not to say, but can’t we find a little spot for Bon among the 50? :D

No. When one is Scottish, they cannot become an Australian citizen. At most, they can be New Zealander.

Rather... where are Van and Tim? Do I have to ask myself this in every ranking of this kind?

  • Emerson
    25 sep 10
Van Morrison is there (at 12). For me, Tim is mostly folk (this is rock), I've already said it above. They were the Van and the Tim you were looking for, right?

  • Emerson

I mean, like Van: aside from the already present Van Morrison, I only know the Lombard singer Van de Sfroos and the singer-astrologer Peter Van Wood (sic!). They don't seem very rock to me though :)

Perhaps Cappio meant Van Zant from Lynyrd Skynyrd?

  • Emerson

    but there's also that, gosh!

It was them, yes. I hadn't seen the Van. That’s fine too, even though personally I might have placed it a bit higher, I don’t know... that’s also why I’ve never managed a ranking. I have too many number ones. Coming to Tim, for me in the broadest sense of "rock" - and that's how it should be understood - he fits in perfectly. Then again, for me, even Miles Davis is a rockstar.

Um, to avoid any misunderstandings (also known as equivoci): it was indeed Van Morrison and Tim Buckley, that's right.

Oh my God, you're right, I really didn't see it! Anyway, I could see Rob Halford in it too! ;)

  • Emerson
    25 sep 10
Well, without a doubt, Miles is a rockstar :)))

But damn it, what a mess!!!!! I thought you were talking about Tim "Ripper" Owens!!!! Now I'm really confused;))

Jesus! That would deserve to be included in a hypothetical ranking of clowns, I suppose, right between It and the clown Baraldi.

Beautiful, but I would have included in the top five: Ian Gillan, Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Ronnie Van Zant, and Greg Lake (absolutely amazing!!!). Furthermore, in my opinion, Eric Clapton shouldn’t have made the list, but Peter Gabriel should have, and Ian Anderson should have been ranked higher.

Peter Gabriel is amazing, but he has a voice tone that irritates me. Clapton live has a beautiful voice and makes no mistakes, he amazed me.

Well, I see I'm not the only one who thinks that Greg Lake is a great singer. In the first take of Promenade, he is magnificent.

Absolutely Stratos among the top 10 at least.

Does Peter Gabriel annoy you, and you've put his ugly copy Fish? XD

  • Emerson
    15 oct 10
Well, Felo de gustibus... and then Fish doesn't really seem like a bad copy of Gabriel to me.

Is it possible that David Byron is always so underrated???

  • Emerson
    16 oct 10
I really like Byron; I don’t know if you’re referring to me (who has included him in my ranking, even if not among the very top) or to others who don’t pay him any attention at all.

I was referring to you and the others. If this is a "singers" ranking and not an "artists" one, Byron deserved a higher spot. I said.

  • Emerson
    16 oct 10
Come on, at least I remembered him. That's something :) One day I'll redo this ranking better; indeed, some are too high and some others too low.

Alright, Gabriel is fine, but you could place Hammil a bit higher.
    Stratos definitely belongs there.

  • hjhhjij
    21 nov 10
Beautiful ranking anyway, there's no doubt.

  • Emerson
    21 nov 10
beyond a certain level, it only depends on personal tastes.

  • hjhhjij
    21 nov 10
Undoubtedly, tastes are tastes, and it's not like Plant and Daltrey are exactly newcomers :) I would have ranked Hammill much higher, but, precisely, "de gustibus."

Very well done, but I have to agree with Fede about Byron and then Stratos?

  • Emerson
    12 feb 11
I moved Byron up as much as I could; honestly, I like the others that come before him more.
