The Profile

John Fogerty (born 1945) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the lead vocalist and chief songwriter of Creedence Clearwater Revival and for a successful solo career that includes Centerfield and Blue Moon Swamp.

Lead singer/lead guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival; CCR were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Won a Grammy (Best Rock Album) for Blue Moon Swamp (1998). Released a solo covers project as The Blue Ridge Rangers (1973), playing all instruments. Engaged in long-running legal disputes with Fantasy Records/Saul Zaentz and refused to perform CCR songs live for years; later compiled his catalog on The Long Road Home (2005). Wrote “Rockin’ All Over the World,” later a major hit for Status Quo.

Reviews praise Fogerty’s return-to-form on Revival, celebrate Blue Moon Swamp’s rootsy vigor, and frame Centerfield as a fresh 1985 comeback amid legal strife. The Rome 2009 show reads like a CCR victory lap, packed with classics and bristling guitars. Blue Ridge Rangers is contextualized as a post-CCR all-covers detour. Eye of the Zombie draws mixed-to-cool reactions despite trademark grit.
