E ricordate: "This is a man's world but it wouldn't be nothing without a woman or a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

Apart from the nonsense, it's true that they are my two favorites. Different but both brilliant. In third place, I would put Lisa Germano, even though it's been years since she published anything new, I think.

For now, I'm just listing them all (apart from the top 4 positions that really reflect the "order" of my preferences), and then I'll update the list gradually.

Yes, imagine that, organizing when there are so many names is impossible. In fact, I simply consider the "longer" rankings as lists.

this would be my first ranking, until this afternoon there wasn't even a category for female artists, I asked G for it.

Why is there a separate category for male groups while for female ones I have to use the "female artist" category? This seems a bit sexist to me -.- come on G, satisfy me!
    • G

In reality, the category (artists) is for all artists (male and female). Logically, there should be a category "male artist"... the same goes for bands...

A couple of so-called "metallic" tips: Anneke Van Giersbergen, the most beautiful voice of Gothic Metal - Post Rock from the past years, and also Liv Kristine Espenaes. Celestial and angelic performers. If you want, I can share my experience at a Gathering concert featuring Anneke.

      17 jan 18
Our opinions are diametrically opposed, but that's okay. I consider Anneke to be one of the most beautiful female voices in recent years; so I'll also mention Lisa Hannigan, if she hasn't been recommended to you already, who accompanied Damien Rice on his first two important albums.

  • Flame
    12 jan 18
It's a matter of taste, I must say... there are quite a few that I would put at the top (assuming it makes sense to make genre rankings), like Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, Lisa Germano, Tina Weymouth (a rhythmic genius in my eyes), Carmen Consoli ... oh my god, did I just say Carmen Consoli???

    • Flame
      12 jan 18
... and I don't know quite a few of them, so I'll make a note of them.
    • heartshapedbox
      12 jan 18
It's a matter of time, in the sense that certain artists you all are rightly pointing out are not absent because I don't appreciate them, but simply because I have little time to dedicate to this list, and whenever I do, I always miss someone. Furthermore, I must say that I’m focusing more on new releases. As for Carmen Consoli, you’re hitting an open door with me. I adored her until a few years ago, but now I can hardly listen to her anymore because I no longer feel her music resonates with the woman I am today.

    • sotomayor
      12 jan 18
Giorgia? I think Giorgia has a great voice. I'm serious. Besides, she's also very pretty. I also think Paola Turci is quite impressive.
    • heartshapedbox
      12 jan 18
Paola Turci is a great woman and artist. Giorgia is significantly superior to Pausini, and I've always wondered why the latter has had and continues to have worldwide success while Giorgia has remained within national borders.
    • sotomayor
      12 jan 18
I really like Paola Turci and I think Giorgia has an incredible voice, but I have never listened to either of them. From what little I know, I consider them very talented. Laura Pausini is much more mainstream, let’s say, she’s more “accessible,” and that’s why I believe she appeals to a much broader audience. Anyway, I find her likable, to be honest; she seems like a very down-to-earth person in the end.
    • heartshapedbox

Beautiful ranking. I'll try to catch up with Scout Niblett, of whom I only know the debut. Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau, Carol King, Aretha, Grace Slick, Margo Timmins from the Cowboy Junkies, or even Liz Phair, Solex, Kim Deal, Poly Styrene; don't you like any of these?

I particularly recommend her first album. It’s not your usual genre, but her voice deserves a listen. I discovered her through the powerful performance on "Shadow of Hierophant" by Steve Hackett, and then I was advised to check out her solo career, barracuda blue.

But blessed pineapple!!!!! I'm still missing some or because I didn't have the time to add them or because I don't know them. Now, it's true that I have a huge musical culture (the self-esteem course has started, huh..) but it's not like I know them all, okay! In fact, this list is also to compare myself with all of you and get some advice ;)

No, come on, not for the first one... but this isn't a ranking anymore!!!!!! Rather, now that I've reached 100, I'm unsure whether to continue here or to start another one, just to make it easier and more immediate for those who are looking in. What do you think?
    • Pinhead
      17 jan 18
I would have done it by periods or by genres, like best artist of the '80s or best blues artist, something like that. In reality, I don't even know if it's possible; I just stick to the ranking of the best albums of the year :-)
    • Pinhead
      17 jan 18
In any case, the only thing that cannot be denied is that your page is useful; I will spend a year listening to all the (for me) unknowns that you have pointed out.
    • heartshapedbox
      17 jan 18
Yeah, you’re right. I've actually been thinking about doing it this way for days, but it's quite demanding and takes time to do, time that I don't have.
    • Pinhead
      17 jan 18
No one is chasing after you; you can do one a day when you can, and you can even add a nice video to get an idea. By the end of the year, you might have a beautiful list of 400/500 artists you love, and if you think about it, that’s quite something. Slowness is the virtue of the strong, remember heart :-)

      17 jan 18

    • heartshapedbox
      17 jan 18
mmm I can understand what you thought, but in reality, it's not so much the slowness that is needed in my work; rather, in some cases, you need to think and act quickly. However, it is essential to be methodical, pragmatic, patient, and focused. Excavations are generally not lengthy because they require slowness, but because one must be meticulous.

Listen, Pinè, I couldn't find Amy Taylor; I either get an Australian soccer player or a porn star. Are you going to pull a @[hjhhjij] like when they recommended that old Sally Campo to me?

I have always been a loyal fan of porn, it’s not just losers who watch porn annnnzi ahah. During my time in the military, I had a well-connected relative who used to bring us a ton of porn every day along with a huge fixed TV in exchange for not doing guard duty ahahah. At one point, I messed everything up in a moment of noble madness; I would wake up, open my eyes, and see huge black members, uncle vaka (it’d go all night, obviously) ahahah crazy stories...

She's beautiful, after Penelope Houston the most beautiful punk rocker in the history of punk.

To the lovers of female singers, I warmly recommend Rickie Lee Jones (the street girlfriend of Tom Waits), one of the most fragile and poignant female voices I have ever listened to, and this album I don’t think I’ve seen her in the charts.
