"It is part of me convincing myself that I am a poet. But it takes a lot of dedication. A lot of dedication. Poets don’t drive. Poets don’t go to the supermarket. Poets don’t take out the trash. Poets aren’t part of the Parent-Teacher Association. Poets don’t even picket in front of the Public Housing office. Poets don’t even talk on the phone. Poets don’t talk to anyone. Poets listen. And usually, they know why they are poets! Yes... how can I say? The world doesn’t need more poetry, there’s already Shakespeare. (There is already enough of everything. Whatever comes to mind, there’s already enough of it. Maybe there was already too much with electricity. People have said it. People have said the light bulb was already too much.) Poets live in the countryside. They behave like gentlemen. And they live by their gentleman’s code. And they die in poverty. They drown in lakes. Usually, poets end up very badly. Just look at Keats. Or Jim Morrison."

"I don’t intend to let love influence my songs. Songs come from the Tree of Life. Love is not on the Tree of Life. Love is on the Tree of Knowledge, the Tree of Good and Evil. In pop music, there are plenty of love songs. Who are they for? Neither for you nor for me. Love can be used in many ways that backfire on those who use it. Love is a democratic principle. A Greek affair."

(Bob Dylan, 1991 interview - quoted in A. Carrera, "The Voice of Bob Dylan", Feltrinelli)

I gather that you have a sensitive soul, and since I don’t recall having ever called you Deamata, I’ll take precautions.

I was absent for a few days, and I didn't realize the delicacy that You afforded me, for which I apologize.

Nothing to apologize for, let alone.

Since it seems you appreciate the little gesture "good morning professor," I would invite you to post something meaningful regarding your tastes with respect to Vecchioni... I would really like that!

I don't quite understand what has an undeniable poetic value, but I thank you and gladly return the love.

On August 27, 1950, Cesare Pavese took his own life. I wrote it in pencil at the bottom of page 37 of the little book titled 'Verrà la morte e avrà i tuoi occhi'; this, along with the apocryphal poems of Jim Morrison, the 106 poems of 'Vita d'un uomo' by Ungaretti, the poems of Costantino Kavafis, the Greek lyric poets translated by Salvatore Quasimodo, Apollinaire, etc., together with other poets I won’t mention here, form three piles of booklets that have been keeping me company for years and from which I do not separate myself simply because, when I need them, I read some and think and live.
Thank you @Zimmy for remembering the poets.

Thank you for this lovely message. I too love poetry very much, both that in music and, of course, that on paper. Pavese, a great narrator and poet, was one of my first literary "myths," along with Eugenio Montale. I feel very connected to his poems and his wonderful novels.

It wasn't so much for you as for the beautiful stuff you proposed... when it comes to (and when it's talked about well) Italian singer-songwriters (especially "those" singer-songwriters), the beautiful just comes to me automatically :)

One question, sorry for my ignorance, but who is the person in your profile picture?

"Zimmy" is a kind of cartoonish caricature of Bob Dylan, a character created years ago by Michele Murino on the website Maggie's Farm, the main Italian site dedicated to Dylan (the name obviously comes from Bob's real surname, Zimmermann). I realize that it doesn't actually look very much like him, but I found it charming and I took the liberty to "steal" it to humorously represent my passion for music and for the figure of the Minstrel from Duluth. :)

Curious. Damn, it's true that Zimmy refers to Zimmerman. I hadn't noticed that.
