The Doors - People are Strange
"Jim Morrison & the Doors on the road" (16)
A beautiful and distressing story. Jim was already under pressure during the recording of this second album. One afternoon, he went to Densmore and Krieger's house particularly depressed and agitated, to the point of telling the guitarist "that it was no longer worth continuing this awful thing." Robby, shocked, spent hours convincing him otherwise and especially telling him not to do anything drastic like threatening (source: Krieger). Morrison calmed down a bit and said, "I'm going for a walk up into the hills" (Hollywood Hills). The next morning, when he returned, he told Robby that he had seen a beautiful sunrise and landscape, and that on his way back he had composed a song which he sang to the guitarist about how strange and difficult it is to live in a world where one feels like a stranger.
