1st PLACE

It’s On My Own, the best-selling single in 1981 in Italy! Here in the official video, which was a hit on local and national TV. Kids went crazy for her, for this beautiful child-adult who sang such a demanding song and, let’s face it, very beautiful albeit syrupy.

PETALOSA.

2ND PLACE

We are now flying higher and higher. We’re on board the most “badass” plane in the world. The track, no point in beating around the bush, is in the pantheon of pop since the genre has existed. The fixed little piano underneath, hypnotic and repetitive, and the occasional tiki-taka that peeks out are the trademark, as well as the winning attacking tandem, of Orchestral Manoeuvres.

Fotheringay(Sandy Denny) - John the Gun I’m sharing this version, which is ultimately the original version of the song, intended for the second album of Fotheringay that never was. Then, like "Late November" ended up on Denny's solo debut (where Lucas and all the other Fotheringay members played + Richard Thompson, so in the end, well, it was still them, only the second album became his first). A thanks to Jerry Donahue for giving us at least a slightly greater archive of songs from that beautiful band that Sandy Denny and Trevor Lucas had put together.

3rd PLACE

The podium opens with another timeless track. There are very few who have been able to write pop ballads so “perfect,” and among these few are, without a doubt, the authors of this song, Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. Sang in an simply extraordinary way by the divine nosed Barbara Streisand, who would soon be dethroned by the divine Madonna Ciccone (which rhymes with "cafone").

Lio (with the accent on the "o"). She is young, very pretty, fresh, sexy, and... French. Amoureux solitaires is a Transalpine pop gem, light, impeccable, dreamy, where 80s synthesizers do their “dirty” work in a “clean” way. It's impossible to resist Lio agua&soap MORE nightgown and panties!

SEDUCTIVE.

5TH PLACE

I can tell you that, curiously, the top five positions in that year were occupied by 5 foreign hits, all of which, to varying degrees, ascended to the status of "classic."
Here are the magnetic and haunting eyes of Bette Davis, a pop track of exquisite craftsmanship that hasn't lost an ounce of its charm.
