No, I don't mean to say that he was talking nonsense, absolutely not. However, I believe that sometimes certain phrases are said more for the thrill of shocking and for the aphoristic thought than for a love of truth. That doesn’t mean that in the phrase you quoted there isn’t a kernel of truth.
