I have listened to the first four works by Tim Buckley, up to Blue Afternoon, it seems. He's good, no doubt about it. However, musically, he doesn't strike me as exceptional, at least not superior to people like De Andrè and Tom Waits (who is one of my favorites).

ajejebrazorf, meanwhile to cover my ass I had said "generally." I agree with you on Tom Waits. On Tim Buckley, I don’t. I haven’t listened to the others enough to agree or disagree with you.

I don't totally agree with you, surferkangaroo. I say this without fearing to utter a heresy: the music in De André's songs is generally far superior to that of any other singer-songwriter I've ever heard. And Bob Dylan is no exception. Without the lyrics, De André's albums wouldn't certainly be masterpieces, and they would lose all their charm, but the music in CDs like "Non al denaro non all'amore ne' al cielo", "storia di un impiegato", "crueza de ma", "anime salve" and partly "la buona novella" is much more than mediocre. Perhaps you are only thinking of the early De André, with just acoustic guitar and voice.

Yeah, I exchanged love, heaven, and money; these days that happens often. :-). In my opinion, yes, the musical arrangements are inferior compared to the later albums. There are still some musically appreciable parts, though.

"But are you really sure that it hasn't been extremely overrated from an artistic-musical point of view?" In my opinion, absolutely not. I mean, the early works were musically nothing special (but with the most beautiful lyrics he has ever written). But from Non all'amore nè al cielo nè al denaro onwards, the other music is beautifully composed as well.

However, the editors have surely forgotten something in the opening sentence, like...: "some records remain -at the record store-."
