@Purpulan: you're mistaken about the VOLUTO as well. Keaton remained desperately attached to cinema, even during the unhappiest period of his life. Add to that the fact that Buster was able to make people laugh with any element of the scene and the "machine" of cinema... Any technical innovation was like manna from heaven for him. He felt the same way about "sound." In the thirties, he proposed several ideas for "talkies" to the executives at MGM, who simply ignored them. He then resorted to writing gags for many comedians, such as the Marx Brothers. But since you are also a fan of Keaton and, from what you say, it seems you haven’t read it, I recommend his autobiography: "memorie a rotta di collo" (Feltrinelli). Bye.

I intervene in the Chaplin vs. Keaton debate because I'm a convinced Keatonian and because I feel like it. :-) Keaton has not been forgotten. And it’s not true at all that he failed to overcome the trauma of the sound era. Simply put, from "Spite Marriage" onwards, he no longer managed to make a film that was truly his own. He became dependent on MGM, which made him only do low-quality comedies. Then Keaton contributed to his downfall by drinking like a sponge and becoming unreliable... By the 1930s, his career was pretty much cut short (but he would recover...), while Chaplin was in full swing. Saying that Chaplin is greater (even just by a hair) or that Keaton is greater makes no sense. They were different both as characters and in their approach to cinema. I’ve always thought that Chaplin was an extraordinary soloist, while Keaton was a formidable conductor. In my opinion, Keaton was even more modern, quintessentially twentieth century... Ah, it seems that Chaplin cut many scenes from his duet with Keaton in "Limelight" so that Keaton would appear only as a "supporting actor". Whether that’s true or not, it's an extraordinary sketch…

Well, I didn't like it... And Kaufman, at least as he was portrayed in this film, doesn't seem like such a great genius of comedy to me...

M. Night Shyamalan Lady In The Water
Voto:
Well, in my opinion, Shyamalan appears in his films because he wants to be seen as cool like Hitchcock or Tarantino... But to be as cool as those two, he has a lot of soup to eat...
