Provocative question: but according to you, is progressive rock? Or rather: can an album like this be considered an evolution of rock? Or has Fripp only "borrowed" from rock?

Imagine an Enzo Jannacci straying on the road to Chicago, a Nanni Svampa caught up in psychedelic frenzies <<< How cool! Legendary Nanni Svampa! :-DDD
Black Flag Damaged

But imagine! Just the other day I was reflecting on the importance of Damaged in the evolution of hardcore (and alternative rock in general, whether it's noise or metal). Well, I came to the conclusion that Damaged, beyond the sound rendering of some of its masterpieces (like the indispensable Rise Above), beyond the showmanship of its two leaders (Rollins and Ginn), represented, in the era it was released (1981), a new way to compose and play hardcore. No longer the clanging guitars of the Germs or the Circle Jerks, but twisted rock'n'roll riffs derailed by dissonances and digressions of all sorts; no longer a linear rhythm section like that of punk or the very early hc, but a neurotic, jagged, broken beat (a glaring example: What I See); and then there was a ferocity, a violence, an aggressiveness never heard before (Rollins' scornful voice and the strongest backup choruses ever, if not in a certain British "oi," perhaps...). MDC, DRI, and all the most extreme hc bands that exploded shortly thereafter started from the lesson of Damaged.

Perfect. What about the Rodan? 100% Slintian! But much less essential...

Well, I don't need that antidote. Zeit never bores me! :-)

Listened to it for the first time just now... Well, frankly, I've rarely listened to Slint... It seems to me that the magical word to describe the music on this record is "free-jazz." Yes, because I struggle to find the typical geometries of post-rock in this music, as the tracks seem somewhat improvised and structured in a very free manner... In this first, superficial listen, I was particularly struck by the unusual timbral solutions and the reckless contaminations with other styles, genres, sounds, etc...
