eh eh the y pants are great, especially for what they have represented with their "home-music," that is, the concept of music that is by definition domestic, humble, spartan, all intelligence and imagination, despite modest means... to define the atmosphere of their tracks as disorienting is an understatement: one can find comparisons now to Nico, now to Lydia Lunch, now to The Shaggs, now to the B52s, but fundamentally it’s hard to find a true reference for this music that seems to have genuinely dropped on us from another planet... pure abstraction, a virgin territory where any expedient is allowed... literally obliterated the competition of The Raincoats... fantastic Barbara's song with that Middle Eastern flavor, but the peak remains That's The Way Boys Are, practically the Babes In Toyland gagged... ah, perfect review...

ah ah psycho...so beautiful when you dream of being in a place with a famous character...sometimes I dream of a song or a movie that is completely different from reality...imagine that one time I dreamed of a movie: "The Streamers," year 1989, directed by Camillo Mastrocinque...
David Bowie "Heroes"

Nice feel, intriguing reception... as I wrote a few days ago about Low, I also remember a fascinating bonus track on Heroes (the one that immediately follows "Secret Life Of Arabia")... compared to Low, I believe that Heroes is more successful in merging rock and electronic music, while the first side of Low essentially consists of a handful of typical soul-rock tracks adorned with electronic interferences that don't particularly insist on transforming the guitar-based foundation... in Heroes, however, this distorting blend is present and gives life to small gems of denied catchiness... "Joe The Lion" is beautiful, while "Heroes" pays a heavy tribute to Lou Reed's druggy boogies... of course, the second side of the album is also very evocative, increasingly leaning towards ambient... I still hold the view that the best Bowie is the exquisitely glam Ziggy, mostly because Bowie never really stopped being glam, if you think about it...

well, hardcore country in '69 no (the Meat Puppets weren't around yet!) :-D ...I was thinking more about Neil Young (the fiery one who that same year released This Is Nowhere: that was some solid country-rock, actually pure rock to be honest)...

Well, it's true that Trout MasK Replica is often brought up inappropriately (see Twin Infinitives, which has practically NOTHING to do with TRM)... however, when listening to Soldier Talk, the first album that comes to mind is indeed that of the Captain (both for the sound and the structure of the tracks, as well as for details such as the use of free-form horns)... @Supersoul: for me, the "psychedelic" Thompson is the one from the 60s, certainly not the one from Soldier Talk... moreover, if the author of Parable (with all those so-called "free-form freak-out") isn't a freak, then who should be?! You rightly mentioned Zappa (even though We're Only In It, from the Trilogy, is perhaps the most serious and least entertaining album, and thus more projected towards the Residents era)...
