Queen A Day At The Races
Voto:
Well...actually...from a certain point of view, the 80s were a crucial period for rock (if I think that in just a few years, Double Nickels, New Day Rising, Tim, Doolittle, Tweez, Atomizer came out...that's enough, I'll stop here because the list is super long!!!) :-)

"Don't stop me now" is one of the most infectious things I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. Just that track alone qualifies Mercury as one of the geniuses of pop music. Then there are the unrestrained baroque elements of "Bicycle Race," the theatrical hard rock of "Let Me Entertain You," and the pyrotechnic flair of "Dead on Time," "Jealousy"—one of Queen's most intense ballads— and the exhilarating "Mustapha"... yes, I know I'm biased, but what can you do? Those who didn't grow up with Queen will probably find Jazz a tacky and banal album, but I remain convinced of one thing: Freddie Mercury managed to compose very original pop/rock songs because he had his own unique (refined, twisted, unpredictable, imaginative) way of tackling more conventional genres, from hard rock to ballads, with everything in between.
Le Stelle Di Mario Schifano Dedicato A...

So... this morning I forced myself to watch it as prescribed by Dr. Schifano: the TV was on, with no sound... I endured, in order, a speech in the Senate by Andreotti, a soap opera on Rete4, and an old Dick Van Dyke (Bert, the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins) on Channel 5... Pretty cool, right!
Def Leppard Pyromania

Practically perfect analysis. Yes, indeed, the Leppard are more hard rock than heavy metal and maybe that's why they don't drive me crazy. My favorite hard rock bands are from the 70s... 80s hard rock isn't really my thing (except for Appetite by the Guns...).

This average grade is too high... Where is Ramona? :-P
Soul Coughing Ruby Vroom

"New York is one of the most fascinating cities I have ever seen." <<< NY's allright if you like saxophones...but also if you love double basses, judging by these delightful Soul Coughing... :-)))
Bathory Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
Voto:
Stupendous Massacre and Eternal Fire, but in my opinion, the masterpiece of Bathory is found in the subsequent Blood Fire Death: A fine day to die, their most complete track. Anyway, seminal album and excellent review. Well done! :-)
Scorn Vae Solis

Listened! Yes, it's beautiful. I agree with mementomori on the influences (KJ, Swans, Ministry...maybe even Wire?). They remind me of Neurosis, due to the metal/electronic fusion. Provocation: in both cases (Neurosis and Scorn), aren't 70 minutes of music perhaps too much?
