I wouldn't say so, Bjork68: the first two albums by Roxy Music seem just as brilliant as this Flying Teapot.

I was deeply disappointed by this album, both for the production and for the quality of the songs. The third one is nice though (the one that goes "somebody put me together"). Nice review.

Really an engaging discussion (as always when Fusillo chimes in ;-D). Today on the train, I thought of a "slogan" to define Zappa's music, and with which I generally agree with Easycure's opinion (even though I ADORO Zappa): for me, Zappa made "classical music disguised as folk music." And this might explain a lot. Regarding Wyatt (and here I am slightly off-topic), I believe he is not TOTAL like Zappa, but rather UNIVERSAL, able to appeal to both fans of the Baronets and those of free jazz and avant-garde. It is no coincidence that he created his masterpiece in 1974, when the golden age of prog was already coming to an end and the new wave had not yet exploded: a sign that Wyatt was truly traveling outside of any pre-established route. End of off-topic.

Surfer, the rating is the least reliable of indicators! :-D Anyway, you're right: rereading it, it kind of had a "shopping list" effect on me. :-))) Anyway, the important thing is that at least it encourages people to get the album.
