More than 130 million records sold worldwide, 30 million just after 1991... ladies and gentleman... the Queen
In the world, there are seven wonders... right?
Since November 25, 1991, they have become eight, because the Queen became part (even long before '91) of the indelible history of world rock.
'Innuendo' is the last album they recorded in the studio while Freddie was agonizing towards a cruel death... but the king of rock, like any mortal singer, could have thought only of himself, and instead... he did not want to disappoint his fans to the end, pulling yet another ace from his sleeve... "INNUENDO." The album is an exceptional mix of ballads, poetry, and rock. "Innuendo" is the first track of the album and is comparable to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' both in track length and as a song, although "Innuendo" is much, much more rock. The video is simply fantastic in its images... what more can we say?
"I'm going slightly mad" is pure poetry, a melancholic and ironic song in a low voice (extraordinary!), the black and white video is the actual vision of a sick but not visibly so Freddie Mercury... it gives chills! "Headlong" seems not to belong to this 1991 album, because Freddie's grit and voice and the group's sounds seem to be those of the best times... overwhelming! "I can live with you" and "Don't try so hard" run on the same wavelength, good songs but nothing more. "Ride the wild wind" is a song that gives energy, grit, end, with a sound that towards the end rises with bass and guitar that give chills. A very underrated song in my opinion. "All God's People" the seventh track of the album is a gospel song... it ends in anonymity.
"These are the days of our lives" is the true visual testament of Freddie Mercury's death, the text is pure poetry, it excites, raises a praise to life and to those who give it... what can we say, paradise in a music studio! If "I'm going slightly mad" is the actual vision of the illness, here everything becomes visible, with a very thin Mercury "immobile" in front of the cameras. But all this does not stop the great Freddie and his band, allowing them to produce a great video and a wonderful song... The final part gives chills with Freddie saying I STILL LOVE YOU... is it a goodbye or a see you later to all of us fans? Who knows....
"Delilah" is dedicated to one of his many feline friends named "Delilah," with Brian May in the song making his Red Special meow like a fairy tale! "The Hitman" is the last rock song of the Queen, they let themselves go, they seem not to set any limit, with a Mercury always fantastic (we are still in 1991!), and a band accompanying him as always as great poets of music!
"Bijou" is the dedication that Brian May makes to his childhood colleague and friend Freddie, with a guitar that moves you and lyrics suitable for all who love each other!
"The show must go on" the testament of his death sung... fantastic!!!!! What can we say? I won't comment.. listen to it and it comments itself. It gives chills... the voice, the guitar, the bass, and the drums seem to unite to consecrate one of the greatest bands in the world.... the QUEEN.. the immortals.
Tracklist Lyrics and Videos
01 Innuendo (06:31)
While the sun hangs in the sky and the desert has sand
While the waves crash in the sea and meet the land
While there's a wind and the stars and the rainbow
Till the mountains crumble into the plain
Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'
Tread that fine line
Oh we'll keep on tryin' - yeah
Just passing our time
While we live according to race, colour or creed
While we rule by blind madness and pure greed
Our lives dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion
Through the eons, and on and on
Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'
We'll tread that fine line
Oh oh we'll keep on tryin'
Till the end of time
Till the end of time
Through the sorrow all through our splendour
Don't take offence at my innuendo
You can be anything you want to be
Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be
Be free with your tempo be free be free
Surrender your ego - be free be free to yourself
Oooh, ooh -
If there's a God or any kind of justice under the sky
If there's a point, if there's a reason to live or die
If there's an answer to the questions we feel bound to ask
Show yourself - destroy our fears - release your mask
Oh yes we'll keep on trying
Hey tread that fine line
Yeah we'll keep on smiling yeah (yeah yeah yeah)
And whatever will be - will be
We'll just keep on trying
We'll just keep on trying
Till the end of time
Till the end of time
Till the end of time

INNUENDO is a slow agony: it’s almost as if you can see Freddie suffocating, at times falling, at times clinging to the other members of the group.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON is one of those epic, 'century-spanning' songs.

Innuendo is undoubtedly a record destined to remain in the history of rock.
'The Show Must Go On,' Freddie’s testament, is perfect and incredible.

Almost every lyric was influenced by the situation Freddie was going through, making the album very melancholic, and consequently moving.
In the opinion of the reviewer, Innuendo is definitely the most beautiful Queen album since the 80s onwards.

Innuendo is a journey within each of us, within our anxieties and weaknesses.
The Show Must Go On being careful to have a tissue ready to dry the tears of your cathartic cry.
