a typical fake review, which incontrovertibly demonstrates something that had already been suspected for some time: De-Cano = Marco Poletti :-)

"Rock Bottom is a little less heavy than Third, but everything is almost unbearable." <<< what is it that you can't "bear" about that album? But then, just out of curiosity (I'm addressing everyone here): can you really enjoy albums while breaking up the listens (like Lester Bangs said he did with the Trout)? When I'm forced to interrupt my listening of an album, I start to get nervous.
Minutemen We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen [2DVD]

"But are they Texans who vaguely resemble the Butthole Surfers? <<< very vaguely, more for their blues heritage... in reality, they resemble the Minutemen more... anyway, if you've listened to them, I don't think they've gone unnoticed: it's hard to remain indifferent in front of a 'Sound On Sound' or a 'Work Without Pay' or a 'Detectives' (just to name three at random)"

I take this opportunity (since we're talking about funk-punk, Minutemen, and American underground from the '80s) to revisit the Texan band Big Boys, led by the legendary Randy "Biscuit" Turner, whose entire discography I highly recommend (they haven't released a single bad album!). Their style (and the "sound") often approaches that of the Minutemen (even though, of course, the San Pedro trio was unparalleled in terms of flair, imagination, genius, creativity, technique, feeling, taste, precision in execution, and sound clarity). The Big Boys were also particularly eclectic (especially in the realms of blues and funk), never banal, always interesting and engaging, surprising, unpredictable, with a guitar capable of doing anything (despite the spartan execution), a captivating voice, and a versatile rhythm section. Like the Minutemen, the Big Boys were both sophisticated and immediate, and they knew how to reconcile the most varied emotions: relaxation, bitterness, frenzy, anger, sarcasm, anxiety, etc... Check them out (especially Fester and Spakka! ;-) )
