I've listened to Malmsteen's first two works, and I didn't dismiss them. However, after reading interviews and listening to him, I started to avoid him. Okay, you're fast, but you can't just do that! Plus, you act so full of yourself...

Well, anyway, I believe that Deep Purple, along with Morse, have released something interesting. Just look at the first "Purpendicular," for which I wrote the review. It's an album set in pop, but undoubtedly the only valid one from the Morse era.
As for Blackmore, it's hard to find a guitar player like him around because he made history, and nowadays there's very little left to invent in Rock.
Regarding the choice after Blackmore, if Malmsteen had joined, I swear I would have stopped listening to Deep Purple! I don’t know about you...

I’m pleased to see that a nice discussion has started :)
I had never thought about the replacement of Blackmore with Roth, even if perhaps the two have had very similar paths (reference to classical music) and therefore Roth could have worked well in the Purple machine.
As for Morse, I believe he is a talented guitarist, but he tends to get a bit boring over time. He plays in the same way in every solo, something that Blackmore also did, but certainly doesn’t tire in comparison!
Regarding the solo in Highway Star, my opinion is that it is absolutely not an impossible solo... any average guitarist with a sheet of music can replicate it, so imagine someone like Bolin (even if he was high) or the master Satriani!
Concerning Mollo, I can’t say much since I’ve only listened to "Voodoo Hill" the first time. Of course, I liked it (when Glenn Hughes is involved, you can’t joke around!)

Good review, even if I didn't really like this album much.

I had already seen that concert (Live At Donnington). The jam that Uli does with the UFOs (Schenker included) is truly spectacular... I liked the part with Jack Bruce a little less.

To be honest, I don't think I know Uli well enough to express myself in favor of either the Fender or the Sky Guitar. Having only heard the latter live, I would say that his guitar is definitely noticeable and it's something that sets him apart from everyone else. As for the sound, I find it excellent, although at the concert it was a bit over-boosted and when he reached mid-range tones in the solos, it made my hair curl! I wouldn't know what else to add also because I'm not a professional guitarist; I just strum and that's it! :P

I have to say that I've always liked Zucchero. This and "Oro Incenso E Birra" I find excellent.

Argh... I just realized that I miss this (even though I actually have a couple of bootlegs from that time...) So I can imagine the excellent quality of this record... I'll try to get it.
Deep Purple The Book of Taliesyn

Don't touch Gillan!! Evans has nothing to do with the rock singer of the '70s. Sure, now he may be voiceless, but back then he was talented and powerful. The first screamer in Rock history!
