Jan Garbarek In Praise of Dreams

Forgive me, Hal, but you're not really honest with yourself: if you listened to it last night and consider it a masterpiece (you gave it 5 stars, right? No joking here!) it means at the very least that you are unfamiliar with Garbarek's previous works or, at most, you are one of those (and there are plenty of them on this site, oh yes, plenty!) who, as soon as they read "Jan Garbarek," kneel down "a prescindere," without even listening objectively to the album in question. Well?!

Mh... indeed, rereading everything I fear this time I've messed up... I wonder how K.Gabri is going to tear me apart: HELP! Does anyone at least know them?
Giorgio Gaber Far finta di essere sani
Voto:
I really like Gaber, and he has never had falls in style or flip-flops (except for the first period). He would contradict my theory of the 5 albums because the first 5 were on a completely different register...

I too, if you allow me, know friends who do what you say, but what they do is "borrow" riffs, samples, pieces for their remix purposes and so on. They do it with an ear tuned to something else. I repeat, I doubt that a fan of hip-hop or rap would be that interested in LISTENING to Jan Garbarek, Louis Sclavis, John Surman, or Eleni Karaindrou from the ECM roster, just to name a few, unless for the sake of "copying" or remixing. Am I wrong? Or do you think Madonna listens daily to ABBA or Italian music by Herbert?

Alas, I have been a musician and generally 70% of those who listen to music are too... I know it may seem frustrating for a young kid armed only with a guitar and amplifier who decides to dive into the music industry, but I believe certain impulses should be restrained if they're not backed by true talent or genius (having neither, I gave it all up a long time ago...). However, it's useless to delude thousands of kids with snotty noses into thinking that playing 4 damn chords, getting worked up, and BAM! they'll make billions (sure, the Sex Pistols teach the opposite, but their idea was original and disruptive, particularly relevant to those years...).
Raf Sogni... è tutto quello che c'è

Damn...5 to Raf!!! What do we give to Doo-Bop by Miles Davis, 35?
Paolo Conte Parole d'amore scritte a macchina
Voto:
Great review. I have the album and it's a Conte in splendid form. (I know that as Punisher some would prefer me to be just a punisher and a critic, but every now and then you have to step out of the cliché, right?)

You could have spent a few more words, couldn’t you? You tell us almost nothing about the album, just your feelings... I’m not asking for the list and comments on each song, which I can find on any website, but something more personal from you, that’s for sure, since I don’t know the CD other than by hearsay...

To me, "Avalon" doesn't seem like the masterpiece you say it is, but I admit I've listened to it very little... I'll make up for it as soon as I can, but I remain with strong doubts (whereas I think differently about the early Roxy Music...)

It's a world that I know at best marginally, and I have no hesitation in admitting it (of the names you've mentioned, I only know 5, and none of those 5 have moved me in any way, neither inside nor out), so you will never see a review of a hip-hop or rap album from me. It’s a world that feels distant and "fake," if you'll allow me to use the term... then again, it largely depends on each person's musical journey; it's hard to imagine someone who goes crazy for Run DMC or Wu-Tang Clan (just to name two of the names I know) ever listening to an album by Jan Garbarek or early Miles Davis, I suppose. But if you raise your hand and say ME ME... I believe you, of course, but just off the top of my head, it sounds strange to me...
