The rivalry between RHCP and Fishbone was really funny and culminated in the Peppers saying "...funk it up Fishbone" in the debut song of the album "Mother's Milk" ("Good Time Boys"), replacing the "n" with a "c" in the live version. In response, Fishbone titled a B-Side song "Fishbone Is Red Hot," which closely resembled "Knock Me Down" by RHCP.

Manikin, write well, I already said it. I just want to make an observation about "Crossover". The term has been debated for a long time. The genre was born between the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fishbone, at the end of the 80s (their rivalry is famous). The name was taken from the title of a record by the Dutch Urban Dance Squad "Life 'n Perspective Of A Genuine Crossover" from 1991, which was the first to give a proper name to the genre that connected various musical styles, from funky to metal, from rap to blues, etc... The first time I heard Rage Against The Machine, I thought they were RHCP along with the Beastie Boys... ;-)
