There's no doubt about it, Subsonica is the best Italian band out there!.
"Controllo del livello di rombo" was released on February 7, 2003, and despite the pathetic title, it's a great product. A nice double CD featuring 3 new tracks and a selection of live songs from the tour that promoted their previous album "Amorematico" throughout the boot-shaped peninsula.
As it's played, it's hard to distinguish the live tracks from the original album ones. A testament to the "live" capabilities of the Turin-based group.
Among the new tracks, I really liked "L'errore" which very much recalls Roni Size/Reprazent. Super-fast jungle rhythms with a nice bass line. Samuel's splendid voice stands out against the textures woven by Boosta with his "dangling" keyboards.
The live tracks have been selected with great care. "Velociraptor", "Come se", "Istantanee" from the first self-titled album, "Colpo di pistola", "Tutti i miei sbagli", "Liberi tutti", "Strade", "Il cielo su Torino", "Aurora sogna", "Discolabirinto", "Depre" and "Perfezione" from the masterpiece "Microchip emozionale", and then "Nuvole rapide", "Albascura", "Eva-Eva", "Sole silenzioso", "Mammifero", "Nuova ossessione" and "Gente tranquilla" from "Amorematico".
Personally, I would have removed "Discolabirinto" (I HATE Morgan from Bluvertigo) and included "Cose che non ho" from the first album and avoided putting the cover of "Ain't No Sunshine ..." by BILL WITHERS (as suggested by g__à), leaving room perhaps for the song sung with Antonella Ruggiero "Per un'ora d'amore" in "Registrazioni moderne".
The album is very well curated from a sound perspective: only in a few cases can you hear the audience singing along with the vocalist. The most evident case is "Tutti i miei sbagli", in its intro. Otherwise, it's all very beautiful.
It's recommended. Just like they are live, after all.
Oh, I almost forgot, buy all their other albums too....
