Tom, your analysis is more accurate and in-depth than mine, in fact. I must agree that afterward, with Sgalambro, some gems came out ("l'imboscata," for example, is a beautiful album for me) and here, there are indeed signs of fatigue. So, I concede. The fact is that, for me, the golden period is and remains that which runs from "Patriots" to "Orizzonti." I have always been firmly convinced of this: that's where the perfect synthesis of his culture, his playfulness, and the best literary and musical inspiration lies. There was still a South that knew how to create high culture while having fun in the highest and most etymological sense of the term. Then, we will move from the useless pretentiousness of the Negramaro to the endless superficiality of Tatangelo, dramatically without any middle ground... and everyone will take themselves horrendously seriously...

a very beautiful album with enormous historical value, being the last of Battiato's "literary" works, later replaced by the (for me) less skilled Sgalambro. Beautiful, even though I prefer the albums from the so-called commercial period (Da Patriots to Orizzonti).

in extreme summary: good reception; less beautiful than Blue but more than Shake; very good ballads; terrible single. cheers

grass: I totally agree with you. The most fitting comparison, in fact, I would say is Dalla. I really appreciated your reference to "Anna Verrà," a single (more than an album) representing a true great comeback, and perhaps the last beautiful text from Pino (and perhaps the only beautiful one in Italian). Conte and Guccio: you're right, and I love them both a lot too. There's decorum, absolute, but there is still, undeniably, also decline.

If you think about it, any true Artist has acted for the sake of Art and for the enjoyment and fulfillment that Art can provide. The willingness to be a Master does not belong to the Artist (who, if he thinks he is one, 9 times out of 10 is not...) but to the good critics, the good listeners, and the good students. VC is, today, undoubtedly the most important “in shape” Italian singer-songwriter, meaning in a full explosion of pure artistic expression. And the fact that Waits is behind it (too) does not take anything away from it; in fact, it adds a lot.

filini and voice: I find that in VC there’s Italian-ness, Balkan-ness, and some wonderfully provincial Italian digressions that make it unique and great, and this is my thought, which is a complete 360-degree promotion. However, to say that the latest VC has nothing to do with Waits’ "Frank's Wild Years" or "Bone Machine"... well... it seems to me a historical inaccuracy and nothing more. The fact that one is Italian and the other American means that they have very different influences and results that are quite distant today, but to say that they have nothing in common... well... I don't think even he would say that, I believe. For those who were talking about the "best of his generation," I’m afraid I have to say that age is not an opinion, and if there are no contemporaries who are good... it’s nobody’s fault (or perhaps rather the fault of record labels, the lack of courage from artists... an extremely long discussion), but objectively VC belongs to a different generation compared to De André or De Gregori. I believe that’s a fact (or at least, that’s what I meant to say).

Sorry for the non-musical comment... but how good was Harry when he was younger... for God's sake...??? I have to confess that I couldn't help but stare quite a bit at the cover of the 45 RPM of Heart Of Glass... and I loved it so much, with adolescent ardor...

Why isn’t there any talk about music…??? For example, in my small way, how come no one (not even Poletti) has said anything about my comment, which had the modest audacity to be musical…???

Could you do me a favor !!!!!!!??????? At least on my pages, you can talk about music and leave Poletti alone, because I couldn't care less about your arguments with him and why he's the subject of constant attacks....??? At least in my reviews, please (and thanks to those who liked it) (are you saying that it's not even enough to block anonymous comments anymore...?)
