Ah Francis, do you see it's them, then??? :) That guy really pissed me off that time. By the way, I seem to remember that, after the original singer disappeared, he almost always wrote the songs. Who knows. Anyway, this is a band that - regardless of the fact that it's made up of annoying people (except for the drummer who's as harmless as straw) - has never invented anything new; maybe a little something when James was still around. Brit-pop without ever taking a turn, songs without courage. And this comes from someone who has spent time on them. Yes, in England they enjoy the status of an untouchable band. I listened to this album in the store, just once. I share your observation about the differences with the other albums that you also notice. But for me, the substance doesn't change.
