strange group, Live. Personally, I like this album (oh dear, I used to like it: how long has it been since I last touched it?). Ed's voice is beautiful, much more powerful than Stipe's (to whom - as a band - Live are often compared). Anyway, the best album remains the second to last, "Distance to Here". The problem with Live is that they have never really understood whether to make alternative music or to appeal to the charts, in short, to soften the arrangements and round off the edges. The result: they remained in limbo. They had success, but not as much as they could have, and they didn't seduce the "alternative" world much either, which sees them as a product for the masses.
