Dire Straits On Every Street
Voto:
As a fan of Dire Straits, when I read this review, I found exactly the same thoughts I had about this CD, but with an entirely different outcome: I really didn't like it. I didn't like anything about it, and I couldn't even explain why. It's also true that appreciating On Every Street at 17 can be quite complex... So I decided to revisit it a few years later because I wanted to give myself a chance at least... and I succeeded... It was, in fact, true love: I fell in love with Planet Of New Orleans and My Parties, You and Your Friend is a friendly song, On Every Street could easily have been included in earlier productions... in short... I adore this CD and I've worn it out from listening so much. I believe PlOfNewOr is underrated because I would have loved to hear a live version. The rating is a 4.75 because 5 is perfect. But one's love doesn't necessarily have to be rated by perfection...

I have always considered "Where Do You Think You're Going" underrated, and I honestly have never understood why. I discovered the CD, and in particular this song, listening to a tape of my father's when, in the '80s, he hosted a music program on one of the now-defunct free radio stations. And wouldn't you know it, he opened his show with "Where Do You Think You're Going." As for the rest, I can say that I really can’t digest "Portobello Belle," while I find "Single Handed Sailor" and "Follow Me Home" sensational. There's just one thing that disappoints me about this CD, my first Straits love: there are too few live versions of these songs... Lastly, the rating: if the review's purpose is to encourage people to approach the CD, mission accomplished.

I, on the other hand, just couldn't do it. I came from Shangri-La and had high expectations, that's true...and precisely for that reason I was disappointed...But knowing myself, I decided to give it another listen some time later, trying to erase, as much as possible, his solo past and with the Straits: unfortunately, even then I didn't appreciate it. So, last chance, I went to Verona...a huge disappointment...The year before, a magnificent concert in Milan...but there in Verona instead, sadness...

I wasn't thrilled with this CD... Damn, but in these reviews... can't we say more?

Maybe if they put in more effort instead of being photographed while beating each other up, they would do a hundred times better... Very poor review.

Nice review... I mean... different... I agree with everyone who says it lacks substance... but a 4 seems like a more than fair rating...

Thank you ZannaB and thanks to those of you who at least commented on the review... I'm giving it a try... because everyone complains about multi-reviews, but then only a few offer something truly alternative.
