One thing is certain: "(What's the Story) Morning Glory" is definitely one of the milestones in the musical landscape of the '90s. It represents the highest point reached by the Britpop movement and encapsulates all the characteristics of the perfect Oasis style.
Sure, the Manchester band has always been at the center of fierce criticism and heavy accusations from those who have consistently tried to discredit its sound, considering it repetitive, lacking originality, and insignificant. Oasis has always been attacked for their arrogance, their empty vainglory, and their absurd claim of feeling like the best rock stars in the world: and all these observations are absolutely understandable!!!.
But it is also wrong for those who do not recognize, with an objective view and without any prejudices, that this controversial group has produced, especially at the beginning of its excessively long career, masterpieces of absolute artistic value, wonderful songs whose worth deserves to be acknowledged. I think of "Wonderwall", "Don't look back in anger", "Champagne supernova", now classics in the band's repertoire, and other stylistic peaks scattered here and there in the band’s other albums. "Don't go away", "Whatever", "Slide away" and the little-known but splendid "Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders" are pieces that every lover of good music, beyond anything else, must recognize as authentic gems.
Furthermore, aside from the brawls, alcohol, and drugs, the voice of the band's frontman Liam Gallagher is truly impressive, as it gives the songs a distinctive touch with a truly original and unique timbre, without blending in with the many singers with mediocre voices (first among them, Noel).
Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger are untouchable, timeless masterpieces.
The great success of this CD is deserved, but from here to say that it is a timeless masterpiece is a bit too far.
"You realize you don’t need a perfect knowledge of the instrument to write beautiful acoustic gems like 'Wonderwall' and 'Cast No Shadow'."
"I’ll keep my beloved idiots who don’t write ‘songs’ for idiots but rather, they write FANTASTIC ‘songs’ for idiots."
So I see them and I say "Let's give these sacks of shit a chance"...
I was so disgusted that I switched to ReteAllmusic...
We are faced with an absolute masterpiece, a page of history, a symbol of mid-’90s England, the highest point reached by Oasis.
The most beautiful piece in the career of the Manchester group is ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’... the memorable solo of this song is something absolutely unique.
The 12 gems contained in the album enter you like water and inevitably leave you with something you cannot erase.
'Wonderwall,' which remains to this day an indescribable song for ordinary people.
