I enjoyed it much more than There Will Be Blood (3.5 stars), which shares more or less the same flaws... I would give it 5, but it kind of goes off the rails in the final act. It's also worth mentioning that the 3 hours flew by; this film has a devastating narrative power that keeps you glued to the screen. Cruise is at his best.

Truly a gem of a film. Incredible atmosphere, with the protagonist characterized to perfection. The boss to whom Marlowe's "friend" owes money is also splendid, and the scene where he wants to have him castrated is very striking, featuring a young and incredibly buff Schwarzenegger.
