In the eighties, that good-for-nothing Sam Raimi became a cult director for the two horror masterpieces Evil Dead 1 and 2 (La Casa 1 e 2 ndr.) (ndr stands for note of the annoyance, ndr.), splatter and over-the-top films (give this adjective the meaning that pleases you most), characterized by inventiveness and directorial "playfulness" worthy of every praise. What made the two "homemade" episodes even more successful, besides the fact that they probably cost as much as a pair of S.B.'s underwear (whoever that may be), was the presence of an actor, now considered a true legend: the rubber face/smack face Bruce Campbell. Our Bruce, in the role of Ash, will rightfully enter the horror imagination as one of the most charismatic and successful characters ever. Amen.
"Army of Darkness" would be the third episode of this over-the-top (see above) saga. Here, however, good old Raimi slightly changes direction, abandons the horror genre, and throws himself, with his entire array of acrobatic directorial solutions, into the crassest absurdity (commercial break: by the way, listen to BECERO, by Appestato Mantrico!) and immaturity. Well yes, it's an absurd film. Extremely absurd. Recommended mental age? I'd say 15 years. Who knows. Maybe even a bit less, oh well.
The fact is that this crappy movie is a masterpiece. It entertains, entertains, and entertains. And what should an absurd film, extremely absurd even, do? Entertain. Mission accomplished Sam.
Scenes at the limit of decency. Vulgar dialogues and little jokes like those from a country club (the words fuck and shit are overused), idiocies on idiocies. Then a bit of splatter, some nastiness here and there, deformed old women, skeletons sticking their bony fingers in every orifice of poor Ash (no, not in the ass...I've ruined the plot for you...).
In short, a big movie. For those who want to waste some time down the drain. Actually, watching this film while sitting on your "throne" is probably the best thing.
By the way: did I tell you that Ash has a chainsaw instead of an arm, with which he will tear to pieces every damn son of evil? No? Well...then I won't tell you...

This could have been a cohesive film but instead, falls into a B-movie that resembles warm beer and cold pizza.
The script is a black hole as it saddens me how a community of decent, duty-bound people... spends its time sentencing to death valorous men.
