I know little about Russian mind, which didn't seem bad to me. The other day I ran into the guy and between a deal and a game of The Last of Us (I'm old, and these guys have become young) he let me listen to Rifts, which, I don't know: with the guy and his entourage it made sense; but in all other situations, well: I don't know.

I liked it. How much, I don’t know—probably not too much—but I watched it with pleasure. I find the term masterpiece out of place, just as I find it out of place to mention Babette's Feast; that said, you’ve brought attention to a small film that has the merit of tackling worn-out themes with a personal and original touch.

"The volume is dedicated to the memory of John Balance" I searched the entire page for an excuse not to buy it, knowing it would just sit on the bedside table for five years. But oh well, I guess I have to...

I didn't understand the ending. I mean, I got it and it sucks. And it’s a tragedy because if they had ended it with the school scene, it would have undoubtedly been one of my best films of 2014.

"he can't even pull off a full masterpiece." Yes, because it's not his job. But really, zero. The hysteria surrounding Solimma is worrying. For most of the Italian audience: "minchia, he's the one from Romanzo Criminale," not to mention that Sollima, minchia, is also the one from "La Squadra," and "HO SPOSATO UN CALCIATORE," that idiocy of acab, and he comes from "Un Posto al Sole." He doesn't create masterpieces? I believe he's not capable of it, and I also think he doesn't give a fuck.

The impression is that the bull wants to convince all the critics and spectators that he knows what he’s talking about and can afford to make a film like this. I would have written "baroque"; you better highlighted the concept with "horror vacui." It’s true that, in the long run, it’s annoying, and the plot doesn’t help make it a more likeable film, but it creates a Gothic atmosphere with fairy tale-like qualities worthy of the best Burton. Considering that even Burton himself hasn’t been able to achieve certain things since '99, I would give credit to good Guillermo, who I feared was lost forever after that tragedy of Pacific Rim. A note of disapproval lies, perhaps due to personal taste, in the jump scares that the film is filled with. I found them unnecessary, ineffective, and out of place, almost on the same level as The Village. Actually, worse.
