Dream Theater Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Voto:
Dream Theater are excellent "instrumentalists." No one would ever dream of denying such a thing, but be careful, an instrumentalist is someone who plays the instrument, not the author of the melody being played. Unfortunately for them, Dream Theater entirely lacks compositional skills, and they sidestep the issue by filling every single song with baroque flourishes and impossible riffs. Their albums are thus exceptional for those who seek technique, speed, and precision in music (they've never come second to anyone in this regard; let's give Caesar what is Caesar's), but they will also come off as tremendously cold and inexpressive to anyone who expects a message behind a melody that can evoke emotions. Dream Theater impresses because they make you say, "Wow, what monsters!" but if you leave them in the background, they seem almost, paradoxically, cacophonic. Personally, I believe that good music is that which, even when left in the background, can touch the strings of the soul (forgive this inflated and obscene figure of speech, but I couldn't think of anything else). In conclusion, I believe that, from my perspective, the phrase that best summarizes Dream Theater was said in a music video by Elio in a totally different context, but it encapsulates my thoughts well: "Listen to how badly it sounds like God!" Dream Theater plays the instrument as if it were from God, but unfortunately, they are unable to draw out a decent melody from the same instrument.
My Sleeping Karma Satya

Great review, if you spend so many words of gaudio et giubilio for this satya, quickly recover their first album ("My Sleeping Karma") which I find to be more spontaneous and, if possible, superior to this.

@madcat: I didn't mean that. I didn't like Siddhartha because I found it a deadly bore. (I'm still aware that I'm the problem and not the book) @kosmo: ... Boccadoro... pretend you haven't read it, thanks :)

It's certainly less gay than Narcissus and Goldmund from The Lord of the Rings... I believe there are a lot of messages about homosexuality in literature that often go unrecognized, sometimes even by the author. (Tolkien was heterosexual, married, with children, yet the relationship between Sam and Frodo is as homosexual as anything his mind could conceive, and, in my opinion, he did this in complete unawareness. Yes, in our teenage years we have all been a bit gay, unconsciously but we have been; to deny it would highlight the inability to bear such a condition, such because it still manifests (READ: if what you read made you jump out of your chair and want to write "speak for yourself, you ugly faggot! I've always been straight," then you're a repressed gay.)

I am truly sorry: I sent the same review a little while ago (meaning a review of the same album) and now I'm reading this one hoping I haven't written the same things you did. I apologize for the duplicate.
