"They create sequences where the editing can only be done in one way, precisely because they know that editing is the foundation of a film..." anyway, editing and directing are two different things for your information. The assistant director is crucial more often than not (are you sure you’ve worked in the film industry???) regarding the fact that Hitchcock surrounded himself with stars so that more people would go see the film... but please, the biggest star in his films is still him; if he made a film with Paolino Paperino and Nonna Papera, people would still flock to see it. He worked with stars because it’s easier to act with capable actors, and the great maestro Alfred can say whatever he wants, but that's how things stand. Does he know more than me and you? For that matter, he knows more than me and you combined and multiplied by a thousand, but good old Alfred was a primadonna with a penchant for the spotlight, and sometimes he would throw out clever phrases just for personal pleasure (he was often overshadowed by his own personality; there was simply too much talent in one man).
PS 3D doesn’t hurt the eyes but it’s not that essential.

"as long as they do not intend cinematography as a mere formal art that has forgotten the pleasure of substance." did I ever say that substance must be lacking? I said it can very well be lacking. There's a big difference.

"telling a lot of nonsense, but the biggest problem is that you actually believe it!" look, for now, only those who haven't seen the movie believe you...

PS: stop watching a movie for the story; that's what books are for... cinema is a visual art until proven otherwise, how can I explain to you where the best photography is? It just is. You understand it by looking at it, just like with editing and sound editing (which, however, is particularly tied to special effects and therefore it's quite misleading to compare two films that are 20 years apart, I realize that).

re-read point 40, I've talked to you about it more than enough. Oh yes, next time give a watch to Apocalypse Now, saying that it’s overrated and that Coppola owes everything to the publicity he got at Cannes :)

I'm sorry that Ash doesn't know how to play along with the game she herself promotes... well, as I said before... it's her problem (I was hoping she'd have a laugh about it).

"The fact that you define 'Dances with Wolves' as TACKY (just like Avatar!) shows the simple truth that you understand NOTHING about cinema; just look at the rating you gave to this fucking little film... 'these sci-fi bullshit stories with a screenplay written by a 5-year-old'... but the screenplay seems a lot like that of Dances with Wolves to me, you know??? Like a bad soldier who goes to live with the good guys and then leads them in the fight against the bad guys who were once his companions... yeah, they really seem quite similar... only that in Avatar there’s better cinematography, better editing, better sound editing, there’s no Kevin Costner (and just for that, Avatar is better), there are enjoyable long takes (assuming you know what they are; if not, Wikipedia can explain it to you)... look, saying that I don’t understand anything about cinema, having worked in it, makes me laugh so hard, and I also point out that all those who think like you on this page are the ones who haven’t seen the film... and you, instead, who understand so much about cinema, have you seen the film or did you just think, 'if they’re doing all this advertising, it must be a piece of shit'? In which case, I’m happy to inform you that Cameron is not Michael Bay... in conclusion, the fact that I don’t understand shit about cinema as said by someone who praises the biggest Hollywood hoax in terms of publicity and film value (Dances with Wolves), I take as a compliment."

It's interesting how all those who agree with the reviewer haven't seen the film... but a little less prejudice and a bit more humility?

I'm only now reading a comment that claims The Last Samurai is better than this Avatar... as long as we stick to radical chic reasoning, that's fine (of course, Dance with Wolves is just as kitschy as Avatar anyway), comparing the crap of The Last Samurai to the Nutella of Avatar.... well, you nailed some catchy phrases and achieved the result you were hoping for.
