Maybe we didn't understand each other: IDM seems to me like a fucking label. Just like AOR. They just have opposite values: IDM = cool electronic; AOR = shitty rock.

Sorry, I risk being misunderstood: what is classified as IDM 98% of the time I really like a lot, while what is classified as AOR 98% of the time seems like crap to me for ex-teenagers unable to grow up. (No offense to anyone)

And thank god I'm no longer eighteen. @dope: but "IDM" could it be equated as a term to "AOR": that is, isn't IDM just another pointless label slapped on electronic music (a genre that already seems to have plenty of labels)? Just like the AOR label applied to rock doesn't mean a damn thing unless it's rock made by people who want to be taken seriously? I mean, under IDM I see people like Venetian Snares, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Isan, Aphex Twin, Orbital... people making stuff that has nothing to do with each other (unless some think Boards of Canada and VSnares are similar...) wouldn't it be easier to say that Autechre, instead of making glitch IDM, makes glitch done well?

@cosmo: if it were up to me, it would have a thousand chances: I definitely prefer listening to their first album rather than the theater of fears. And even the MV often drives me crazy. The problem with the album is not being a copy of the previous one, but being a bad copy devoid of inspiration.
