But Bedevilled is at least honest (in addition to being splendid, which is something this Dogville is not). A final note, reading between the lines (but not even that much) of von Trier’s interviews, it’s clear that another theme dear to him for Dogville was criticism of the USA (a theme so dear that Dogville would become the initial chapter of a trilogy (“USA - Land of Opportunities”) on the subject, continued by Manderlay and perhaps in the future, the director will complete with the highly anticipated by everyone except me "Washington").
